I have a problem installing a mod... - 06/06/10 06:25 PM

I've tried about 3 times now to install a pet mod (zip file) but the last instruction, the one that says it will ask you if you want to replace the existing files, won't come up. It will say if you want to 'Copy and Replace', however it won't ask you the options to click 'Yes' to 'All'. ....Also, I'm not sure where the games Images folder is. It doesn't say anything like Program Files/Virtual Families - only 'Virtual Families'. Is that the Images folder? What am I doing wrong?

If the copy and replace dialogue isn't popping up, you're probably copying to the wrong folder.
If you're only copying one file, it won't have a Yes to All choice because there's just the one.
I don't know if you're on a PC or a Mac (though I'll assume PC) but to find the image folder for the game (if you got it from LDW or another place that doesn't package the folder out of reach) you go to your Computer folder, then probably to your C drive (on a PC) and then to Program Files > Virtual Families > Images.
There's a chance - if you didn't buy the game from LDW - that you may have to look for a folder by the name of where you bought it in your Program Files and THEN go to Virtual Families, but I'm not sure.

I'm never able to do it, either. *pouts* Thanks for the help, Krystal. smile

I don't understand why the Deluxe kids room isn't showing up in my game. confused It's in the Images folder, and, the pet-grid, which is in my Images folder, is working fine.

Try checking the file names. Some of us modders had to vary the names a bit to keep track of everything. One should be simply MapX2Y1.jpg and no extra letters or words. If that isn't the problem it could be a few other things, depending on your computers operating system (but I'm not knowledgeable enough to help you with that smile ).

Oh, thanks! I'll rename the kids room to X2Y1 and see if it works.

Only do that if it's the map that is actually supposed to be MapX2Y1.jpg. It has to have the word Map first not just X2Y1.jpg (sorry I didn't put that in originally). There are 4 maps that make up the kids room.

Or, should I name it something like DuluxeKidsRoom.jpg? I forgot to say that VF was running at the time I renamed it.....whoops. blush If thats why it's not working, then I'll rename it (to MapX2Y1.jpg) when I quit the game. I'm wondering if I should do something a bit more complicated, like making an extra/another backup folder?

The first point that LadyCFII makes when giving instructions on installing mods is:

  • Make sure that Virtual Families is not running (quit the game, if it is)

That could very well be your problem. smile

It's always a great idea to have a backup copy of your games original images as well as your ave game files. smile Also, if you name your images anything other than the original names and put them in your games image folder they will not display in your game. You will only see large blank boxes (usually blue).

Any image added to the game folder while the game is open will not be shown until after closing and reopening the game. If you still can't see your new images (kids room) then hopefully someone can help figure out what the problem is. Are you playing on a Mac or PC computer. What operating system are you running? Answers to these questions could help others to assist in trying to figure out the problem.

MissKathy, you were right about those blue blank boxes. The thing is, though, is that before I opened the game, I renamed the Deluxe kids room to MapX2Y1.jpg and opened the game only to find the blank boxes in all save slots. Strange. confused

How does your game look now? Your image looks like you need MapX2Y1.jpg.

I renamed it to MapX2Y1.jpg when the game was closed and it's still the same. frown I don't know whats wrong. I have a pet mod, so maybe it would need to merged (although it's a bit unlikely)?

If your computer is running Windows Vista or Windows 7, the instructions at the bottom of this post will help you see if Virtual Store is causing that problem.
