Who Am I?

We're pleased to announce the start of another "official" forum game called "Who Am I!"

We will be periodically posting clues about a forum member. You use those clues to deduce who the member is. Easy right? Well...maybe not!

First a few tips: In the User List You can search by

• Alphabetically
• Member Number Just click on the little # sign at the top left of the header bar.
• Display Name
• Status
• Total Posts
• Location
• Occupation

Clicking the little arrow that appears by the search key will toggle the order from ascending (smallest to largest) to descending (largest to smallest) Hint: searching by member # is a quick way to search by date a member joined also.

Using the Search function may also be very useful in this game.

Now to address something I saw in the SB: The 1st clue for this game is not something the subject said in a post. Rather, it is a clue concerning something about the subject.

These 2 clues should tell you something about who the subject is. They are not intended to tell you who the subject is, just get you started in the right direction.

For those of you who didn't "get it" I'm going to explain the clues:

Clue 1 was "Are you yobbo's barracking for VV5 as hard as I am?"

If you Google the words yobbo and barrack(ing) you will see they are uniquely Australian words. That should have told you the "subject" lives in Australia.

The Second clue was: "Think Helen Reddy."

Again, a Google search would have turned up "Helen Reddy is an Australian born entertainer..." This should have told you the subject of the game is an Australian Woman.

I'll put my thinking cap on and have a new game up soon.

When I first looked up "yobbo" it said it was a British word so I was looking for folks in Britian. Then the Helen Reddy pointed me to Austrailia.

That's about exactly what happened to me, MissKathy. Although I looked up "barracking" as well, as I wasn't familiar with that usage.

I'm so excited I was right!!

I too looked up "barracking" and the first definition led me to believe that "barracking" was an exciting anticipation of an upcoming event or something. Then yesterday when I searched for another definition, "barracking" had a negative connotation. Congrats again!

"Who Am I?" will be taking a break for the Labor Day Weekend. New Clues will appear sometime on Tuesday, September 7th, 2010.

You are so very correct. Somewhere, sometime, this person admitted to the "fault" described in the 2nd part of the clue. The wording is not exact, but the intent is.

As for the 1st part, digging around in the old posts of a certain forum might give you an idea of who this person could be.

Oh wow... I've tried a couple of things to no avail...

All I get is jibberish. *starts thinking outside the box*

I thought this was "Who Am I", not "decode this message".

Hehe. That aside, I don't think anyone will get it without a hint of what kind of numeric encryption it is.

It is "Who Am I." For this round you will have to decode the message to get the clue.

I decided to use a very simple form of encoding. In fact this method is one of the earliest forms of encoding. It was popular with spies in the Cold War era, and was usually done using a newspaper or book.

In it's simplest form, the code would point to a particular word. I have made it a teeny bit harder, by having the code point to a letter in a word.

Of course, if you all think it's too hard, say so and I'll scrap this round.

I think I know what the type of code is... the tricky part is finding where to get said words for their letters...

Bingo! The first "p" stands for post number. Now figure out what the other red letters stand for and you should be able to solve it!

The first letter in the message is "o"

Oh my goodness. I understand the code! I just can't figure out how to get to the posts with the numbers...

So Havetia and I put our heads together and THOUGHT we had it... but then we got a UBB Message error on one of them...

I must admit this round is not working the way I had expected it to. I failed to take into account several factors, the biggest of which is that different browsers display results in different ways.

I have decided to keep the original subject of this round but have buried the clue somewhere in this post.

I apologize for any confusion this round caused, and hope you like this way better. I will keep trying different ways of posting the clues, because I think it keeps the game challenging. Just know I'm apt to make a mistake from time to time.

I figured out the code but since I couldn't get all the letters (And some of the ones I DID find were wrong ) it didn't go so smoothly.
I have to say that was a very clever clue to use, Rockmower!

As I stated above, I failed to account for the ways different browsers display results. In fact, merely resizing the browser window can give different results!

The way it was supposed to work is this:

should have pointed you to Post # 224503 Paragraph 1 Line 1 5th word 5th letter.

When I originally did this in Firefox, full screen the result was O.

The clue was supposed to spell out o u r k i n g which of course, breaks down to "our king" which should have led you to guess Arthur!

I have to be the stupid one. I cannot seem to find in that post how there is a clue AT ALL to Arthur. Would someone please explain?

If you look at Rockmower's post that he edited, (specifically this one) you'll notice italic letters scattered throughout the post. If you use only those letters, they spell something that points to Arthur

That is the question I ask myself.
Yesterdays game turned out to be too simple.
Plenty of them are that way it seems.
Each should present a challenge.
Of course not too hard, but just hard enough.
Frankly it is difficult to do this.
Cryptology turned out very badly.
Obvious clues should be avoided, of course.
Our goal is a simple one:
"Keep you entertained."

I wouldn't search by location. Maybe it's just me, but I never have much luck when I do that. I would search using a different part of the clue.

This part of the clue is a sort of paraphrase of the message contained in the subjects siggy

This part of the clue is a veiled reference to the subjects screen name.

The only bearing Colorado has on the clue is that she lists Colorado as her location. Of course lots of members live in Colorado, so that isn't much help to you.
