Alright. I understand real football so I know the drafts, the playoffs, how it is played etc. but the truth is I am a blond when it comes to Fantasy football. Can you give an overview of how it actually works? I have heard about, I just am not familar with it. It has always sounded like fun but I don't know anything about it.

Re: LDW 2007-08 Fantasy Football League - 08/10/07 01:36 AM

Hey Christi! It is really pretty simple. Once your team is drafted all you need to do is decide what players you want to play every week. Some times it is simple due to your player has a bye that week. Other times it might not be so easy. You never know what some of these players are going to do week in and week out.

The roster positions for this league is:

QB, two WR's, two RB's, a TE, one Kicker and a defense team. You can have up to 6 players on a the bench.

Points are figured as follows:
Passing Yards (50 yards per point)
Passing Touchdowns (6)
Interceptions (-2)
Rushing Yards (20 yards per point)
Rushing Touchdowns (6)
Reception Yards (20 yards per point)
Reception Touchdowns (6)
Return Touchdowns (6)
2-Point Conversions (2)
Fumbles Lost (-2)
Offensive Fumble Return TD (6)
Field Goals 0-19 Yards (3)
Field Goals 20-29 Yards (3)
Field Goals 30-39 Yards (3)
Field Goals 40-49 Yards (4)
Field Goals 50+ Yards (5)
Point After Attempt Made (1)
Sack (1)
Interception (2)
Fumble Recovery (2)
Touchdown (6)
Safety (2)
Block Kick (2)
Points Allowed 0 points (10)
Points Allowed 1-6 points (7)
Points Allowed 7-13 points (4)
Points Allowed 14-20 points (1)
Points Allowed 21-27 points (0)
Points Allowed 28-34 points (-1)
Points Allowed 35+ points (-4)

I hope this helps, and if you need any additional info please ask.

You have my Village Eagles vs the Steelers for the first game!

That is so funny. Of course, I lean toward my hometown team the Eagles. But what is weird is the fact that my boss is the Dan Rooney's son-in-law.

Re: LDW 2007-08 Fantasy Football League - 09/05/07 09:01 PM

Trash talk is part of Fantasy football, so get use to it. ;\) hehehe

For you first timers a good way to start with is click on “my team” on the top of the web page then click on “Projected Stats” then “week 1”. I know that is a lot of clicking but you’ll get use to it. By doing this you will see what Yahoo estimates the fantasy points each of your players will score for this week. This will give you a good ideal of who you should put on the bench and who should play this week. Most likely you will not have to change your line up for week one. But you will want to keep an eye on it for the other weeks.

Being that we have so many teams the players have been picked through pretty good, so I would not worry about dropping any of your players for a free agent just yet. You will want to wait and see how your players perform and see if any of the free agents get more playing time then projected. But that is just me. Keep in mind, yahoo only has “projected” stats, some players will get hot and score more then their project points, or they might not play much or underperforms. That is part of the fun in playing Fantasy Football.

With all that said, the first game is Thursday (Tomorrow) and as soon as that game kicks off you will not be able to change your lineup or trade players. So if you want to make any changes for week one, you better get busy!

Have fun!

If you have any questions feel free to post them here.

Re: LDW 2007-08 Fantasy Football League - 09/07/07 02:00 PM

What a difference one game makes. Well as most of you should know, the 07-08 NFL season kicked off last night with the Defending Super bowl champs killing the New Orleans Saints. The final score 41 to 10. If Payton keeps this up, I'll be hard to beat this season! Poor Jr., when he went to bed last night Payton only score me 9 points, but when the dust settled he gave me a total of 23 fantasy points.

So far our only close game is between the Isolans and Mysti's Marvels. It will be interesting to see how this game shakes out. Reggie Wayne was only projected to score 8 points for the Isolans, but he ended up with 15! MM has her work cut out on this on!

Isolans 17
Mysti's Marvels 12

After each week I'll post the high/low scores for our league and post the season highs and lows as well as the league rankings.

Well good luck all!

Re: LDW 2007-08 Fantasy Football League - 09/10/07 04:53 PM

Well with Monday Night Football to play yet, some games can probably be called:

Arnie’s Anchormen vs. Village Idiot’s. Looks like AA will hand VI their first loss. VI was picked to win this game by five, but AA’s defense scored 29 points and their QB (Tony Romo) scored 34, and go into tonight’s game with a 21 point lead (86-65). They both have one player in tonight’s game, but it is doubtful Houshmandzadeh will out score McGahee by 21 so congrats AA.

Looks like the Village Eagles will take Jerkstore. They have a 23 point lead, and this game has the lowest score so far (34-11). But Jerkstore has two players in tonight’s game and VE only has one so we will not know the outcome until after MNF.

Another game of interest is the sfrose’s rockets vs. Steelers. This game will go down to the wire. SR leads the Steelers by 10 points.

I will try to post a full recap of all the games tomorrow.

Re: LDW 2007-08 Fantasy Football League - 09/11/07 01:15 PM

Well I’m sure all see now, that it is not how many points you score that determine the winner of a game, but whom you are playing that week. \:\( VI had the forth-highest score for the week, but he played the team that scored the most points. As projected yesterday, the Anchormen’s anchor was to big for the VI’s to move and got handed a 90 to 73 loss. Great coaching Arnie! There was only one close game this week; Juniors Tribe was exterminated by Eye’s team by 7 points! The biggest kill this week was Death Stew King, betting beat by Isola Girls by 49 points!

Highest points scored was Arnie with 90.
Lowest score was Jerkstore only mustering 18 points.

The current standings are as follow:

Arnie’s Anchormen
Isola Girls
Gramma’s Gorillas
Mysti’s Marvels
Eye’s Exterminators
Sfrose’s rockets
Nimshi’s Left Paw
Village Eagles
Village Idito’s
Isolans
Trition tigers
Juniors Trive
Death Stew King
Steelers
RifsterManiacs
Jerkstore

Posted by: sfrose

Re: LDW 2007-08 Fantasy Football League - 09/12/07 12:15 AM

huddle... not cuddle... ;\)

I didn't do anything special last week after getting my auto-draft and I ended up in sixth place! wheee! I figured that I can either continue as is and not change anything or see how this whole thing works. Guess which I picked?

So I found a couple of my players who were injured or otherwise not available, so I grabbed some free agents to replace them. And then I started fussing with who is on the bench. We'll see whether these change improve my standings or not. Watch out Isolans!

Re: LDW 2007-08 Fantasy Football League - 09/17/07 10:10 AM

Monday Morning Report.

We have a couple of close games for the moment. ;\) Arnie's Anchromen and Triton Tigers are currently tied at 68! But, TT has no players left and AA has Westbrook and a TE yet to play. Sorry TT, but it looks like your tigers will not be able to move that anchor! We do have three finished games at this point. Sfrose's rockets blast past Isolans by a score of 66 to 57, Steelers over Isola Girls 54 to 40 and Juniors Tribe over Nimshi's Left Paw 97 to 66. Looks like Junior will have the top score this week as well as for the season so far.

Stay tuned....

I figured out how to vote on matches, and had been one of those who already did, but I was never able to figure out if they affect any standings or anything. Do they? Or are they just bragging rights? Will there be anyway to compare how people voted over the season?
Posted by: TheVillageIdiot

Re: LDW 2007-08 Fantasy Football League - 09/17/07 03:45 PM

Nope, just bragging rights in Yahoo. I play in another leage that has it set up as another competion. But here is it just done in fun.

Whay they are taking about Arnie, is when you vew the matchup each week you can pick who you think will win. It's fun, but I forgot to do that for week 2. \:\(

i was talking to JR about match ups?
Posted by: TheVillageIdiot

Re: LDW 2007-08 Fantasy Football League - 09/18/07 10:40 AM

Week 2

Well week 2 brings us some new records. Juniors Tribes sets a new record for the highest score of the season with 97 points! Way to go JR!. I'm marveled about this weeks biggest loser! Mysti's Marvels runs all over jerkstore and wins by 50! Yes by 50! That's more points then Jerkstore has scored all year! Come on Jerkstore, get it together and put a team on the field will ya? ;\) There were several games this week that were close, so you all are do'n better! Here is the run down. Village Idiot's beat Village Eagles by 21, Arnie takes down the trition tigers by 7, sfrose's rockest kill the Isolans by 9, the Steelers beat the Isola Girls by 14, Eye's Exterminators kill Death Stew King by 27, Juniors Tribe leaves Nimshi's Left Paw in the dust by 31 and RifsterManiaces tromps Gramma's Gorillas by 6.

So here is the record book.

Longest Winning Streak: 2 - Arnie's Anchorman, Mysti's Marvels, sforse's rockets & Eye's Exterminators

Longest Losing Streak: 2 - Triton Tigers, Isolans, Death Stew King and Jerkstore

Most Points Scored: 97 - Juniors Tribe - Week 2
Least Point Scored: 18 - Jerkstore - Week 1
Largest Margin: 50 - Mysti's Marvels vs Jerkstore - Week 2
Smallest Margin: 6 - Rifster Maniaces vs Gramma's Gorillas - Week 2

Here are the standings after week 2:

1 Arnie's Anchormen
2 Mysti's Marvels
3 Sfrose's Rockets
4 Eye's Exterminators
5 Village Idiot's
6 Juniors Tribe
7 Gramma's Gorillas
8 Isola Girls
9 Nimshi's Left Paw
10 RifsterManiacs
11 Steelers
12 Village Eagles
13 Triton Tigers
14 Isolans
15 Death Stew King
16 Jerkstore

We do have some interesting match ups this week. Juniors Tribe and Gramma's Gorillas are going at each other, and both have a 1-1 record Gramma's Gorillas are picked to win by 1 point.. Another interesting game will be between the Village Idiot's and Mysti's Marvels. This is projected to be a very close game, and VI is projected to win by 3 points. But we just don't know if they will show up this week. Keep an eye on that one. Another good game will be the Isola Girls and the Isolans. Isola Girls are picked to win by 4 points. But the closest has to be Arnie's Anchormen vs. Village Eagles. This game is projected to be a tie. Will Arnie's Anchormen get stuck this week? Or will they stay on top? We will see this weekend. Another game of interest is the sforose's rockets and the Jerkstore. Jerkstore is prodected to win this game by 3 points and is in last place. And sfrose'es rockets is tied for first. Could this be this years big upset?

That's that add-on needs to be paid for? I thought that added the points as the games were in progress. I was hoping that as each game ended, the points would be added to our scores.

they all look the same to me, they all have blue boxes next to them

Re: LDW 2007-08 Fantasy Football League - 09/26/07 04:13 PM

Drag on the blue box from a "benched" play to go over the box (should light up to gold) of the player you want to bench instead. Or do it the other way around. (Kind of like swapping plants in the greenhouse or nursery! \:D )

There is also a radio button for "classic mode" and little dropdown menus appear by each player name.

And you are planning that by pouncing on players!

I needed to drop Rudi Johnson since he was out for Sunday's game and another RB I had was on a Bye week. It was do that or play with only one RB. (Not that it helped againts the Idiots powerhouse!)

But you grabbed him even though he's on a bye this week and can't use him!

Re: LDW 2007-08 Fantasy Football League - 10/04/07 01:41 PM

sfrose,
Sorry you feel that way but why you chose to drop your number one draft pick is beyond me, especially since you are carrying 2 kickers and 2 defenses.
All that does is handcuff your team. I'd be willing to go a whole season without a kicker or defense if I had a strong team everywhere else.
And if I liked everyone on my team, I would just not play a runningback for a week. So what if I lose that week. One week does not a season make.
Also, keep in mind, nobody has a bye week when the playoffs start.

Re: LDW 2007-08 Fantasy Football League - 10/05/07 05:36 PM

This is my first time Fantasy Football (I think I mentioned that before) so I'm still learning. Plus except for the Pats and a few other players (stars) on other teams, I really don't know who is good and who is, I'm just reviewing the stats and making best guesses to maximize my points each week. I figured it was bad to not have two RBs, but I didn't consider taking the loss in games while leaving him and (and benching him if my others didn't have byes.) I'm also not sure enough what to do to take the chance on giving up one of my Kickers, TEs or Defense. It's a learning experience, it's not life or death, it just seemed a bit selfish to grab him just to prevent me from getting him back.

BTW, since the teams all started with 2 kickers and 2 defenses, I would have thought that dropping one and not having a spare would have "handcuffed" the team more. But as I said, I'm new to this, and not yet playing in "hard" mode.

Re: LDW 2007-08 Fantasy Football League - 10/05/07 07:32 PM

That's the thing about fantasy leagues. People manage their team any way they want.
Some like carrying 2 of everything just to be safe.
Others, like me don't.
My reasoning is that if I had 2 kickers, I would knowingly be wasting a roster spot on an insignificant position since I will only be able to use him once in 17 weeks.
I, too, have been dessimated(sp?) by injuries, including losing a star runningback the first week of the year. Without 2 quality runningbacks, I feel one has no chance.
So that's why I picked him up.
I'm sure others were waiting to grab him as well. Since I am in last place, I got first choice.
One thing you may want to consider is to go and view the original draft order.
Look at who you picked and when you picked them.
Never, I repeat, never drop any of the first five guys you drafted unless they go down with a season ending injury.
Even if they break a finger or twist an ankle, do not drop them.
They will be back in a week or 2.

Now look at the last five guys you drafted.
Most likely, nobody else wanted these guys because they went undrafted so long so you should drop one of them and be able to pick them back up a week later.
I bet you'll see one kicker and one defense of yours in that bottom 5 as well, that's why I said those earlier.

I hope this helps.

Re: LDW 2007-08 Fantasy Football League - 10/05/07 08:18 PM

The draft was automagic so I wasn't even considering that. (i.e. I didn't make any modifications...) And being new I didn't know how accurate it was. It also didn't seem that the draft actually followed those rankings. On the draft-rankings page it looks like

4. Brian Westbrook
7. Travis Henry
8. Willie Parker
9. Randy Moss
10. Terrell Owens
11. Chad Johnson

all should have been drafted to my team before Rudi Johnson. As it turned out Terrell Owens is on my team, by as my second round choice, and Randy Moss is a third round choice!

It turns out that I only have 5 of my original players still on my team. Injuries, bad perfomances, etc. really killed things.

I also already replaced a kicker and defense with other choices that are (or seem to be) acceptable backups in case of byes or temporary inguries.

I guess I just figured it was safer dropping an injured player than another that was performing well. He's also only contributed 14 points so far, so I wasn't even considering what his draft number was, nor do I still really understand which are the key positions neccessary to a winning season (but I'm learning!)

Re: LDW 2007-08 Fantasy Football League - 10/05/07 08:41 PM

OK.
Please bear with me.

You're mistaken.
You had the ninth pick in the draft so you got the 9th best person in all of football according to the pre-set rankings.
The pre-rankings had Owens listed as 24th best and since your second pick was 24, you got him.
A better place to grasp this better would be at the league home page, there is a brown/maroon line, click on 'Draft Central'.
Then, in blue, click on 'Draft Results'.
You should see a rundown of the entire draft, listed by rounds.
This will tell you who was drafted when by whom.
So you'll get a better feel on who should be considered more important. Keep in mind, there are always situations where someone is over/under achieving so they shouldn't have been drafted where they were.
For Example:
I had the number one pick overall and going by his stats so far, he shouldn't have been drafted until the 9th or 10th round!
But I still have to play him every week. It's just a matter of time until he starts performing(i hope).

I hope this helps too but another thing to keep in mind.

You're getting advice from someone who hasn't won a single game all year!
LOL

Re: LDW 2007-08 Fantasy Football League - 10/05/07 09:06 PM

That snippet was taken from the full list of pre-draft rankings (instead of Draft Results) on my Yahoo page. Isn't that the list of my default order?

Pre-Draft Player Rankings List
Default Rankings
1. LaDainian Tomlinson
2. Joseph Addai
3. Shaun Alexander
4. Brian Westbrook
5. Larry Johnson
6. Frank Gore
7. Travis Henry
8. Willie Parker
9. Randy Moss
10. Terrell Owens
11. Chad Johnson
12. Rudi Johnson
13. Steve Smith
14. Tom Brady
15. Carson Palmer
16. Peyton Manning
17. Edgerrin James
18. Clinton Portis
19. Reggie Bush
20. Antonio Gates
21. T.J. Houshmandzadeh
22. Marion Barber III
23. Marshawn Lynch
24. Marvin Harrison
25. Torry Holt

I thought that the way it would work is that I would get the best player still available on the pre-draft list. Since my team selected ninth, then I should have gotten #4 or #7-11 before #12.

If this is not what this list meant, what is it, and (assuming I play again next year) where is the list that shows the order that you mentioned? (Other than reversing the lists of players actually picked?)
Posted by: TheVillageIdiot

Re: LDW 2007-08 Fantasy Football League - 10/05/07 09:42 PM

Since you selected ninth, your first pick should be the ninth best player if everyone did not change their pre-ranking list, and that is what happened. Moss was rated 9th and you got him as your first pick. In round two you had the #8 pick (24th overall) so you got TO, who had a #10 ranking. Does that make sense? The only way for you to get a #4 player would have been if all the other coaches before (eight coaches) you did not want a top 4 player. The only thing I changed in my pre-draft ranking was moving Payton to my #1 pick, as he always put's up good numbers, but other then that I left my list alone.

But I didn't get get Randy Moss. Eyeshigh did ad her third round choice!

The first round was as follows:

Round 1
1. LaDainian Tomlinson DEATH STEW KING
2. Steven Jackson Isolans
3. Peyton Manning Village Idiot's
4. Larry Johnson Isola Girls
5. Joseph Addai Mysti's Marvels

12. Adam Vinatieri RifsterManiacs
13. Willie Parker Steelers
14. Travis Henry Eye's Exterm...
15. Ronnie Brown Nimshi's Lef...
16. Carson Palmer Juniors Tribe

Brian Westbrook (#4) wasn't picked until after me (in eleventh place.)

Am I still missing something?

Re: LDW 2007-08 Fantasy Football League - 10/06/07 04:04 PM

There is no way that is the pre-set rankings without someone going in and making changes.
Didn't you say you left it untouched?

Peyton was the only QB in top 25.
Nor would there have been as many WRs ranked that high.
That is not the default ranking from the league.
Nor could it have been the list used or you would have those people.

Maybe it's a _bug_?
Posted by: sfrose

Re: LDW 2007-08 Fantasy Football League - 10/06/07 05:11 PM

I didn't touch it (unless by accident.) I didn't know enough about how this works back then, or even enough about many players I would have placed higher (except for a few like Tom Brady and Adam Vinatieri!)

I was going to ask what other people's list looks like, and noticed that mine changed! (I'm on a different computer, but I suspect that doesn't matter.)

The same list now looks like:

Pre-Draft Player Rankings List
Default Rankings
1. LaDainian Tomlinson
2. Joseph Addai
3. Larry Johnson
4. Shaun Alexander
5. Brian Westbrook
6. Randy Moss
7. Frank Gore
8. Willie Parker
9. Terrell Owens
10. Tom Brady
11. Rudi Johnson
12. Chad Johnson
13. Edgerrin James
14. Carson Palmer
15. Steve Smith
16. Peyton Manning
17. T.J. Houshmandzadeh
18. Clinton Portis
19. Reggie Bush
20. Antonio Gates
21. Ronnie Brown
22. Adrian Peterson
23. Tony Romo
24. Marshawn Lynch
25. Plaxico Burress

Is it possible that this list is changing based on new information and/or results of other legaues drafts?

If yes, nevermind about my confusion. I'll just pay more attention to the draft part of this next year.

If they offer leagues that start mid season then I guess it would change constantly but I think mine is still how I had it.

I guess anything is possible.

Re: LDW 2007-08 Fantasy Football League - 10/06/07 06:02 PM

Did you modify yours? It is possible that if modified, the list doesn't change, but if not, it'll get updated. I'm curious what other people are seeing. And whether there is a _bug_ or not.

Re: LDW 2007-08 Fantasy Football League - 10/08/07 12:56 PM

I changed my order so it should not change if Yahoo changed the ranking. I would have to assume if you don't change your order, the order will change as yahoo changes theirs. As I said before the only ranking I changed was moving Manning to the top. Here is my order I'm currently showing:

Your Rankings
1. Peyton Manning

Default Rankings
2. LaDainian Tomlinson
3. Joseph Addai
4. Larry Johnson
5. Shaun Alexander
6. Brian Westbrook
7. Randy Moss
8. Frank Gore
9. Willie Parker
10. Terrell Owens
11. Tom Brady
12. Rudi Johnson
13. Chad Johnson
14. Edgerrin James
15. Carson Palmer
16. Steve Smith
17. T.J. Houshmandzadeh
18. Clinton Portis
19. Reggie Bush
20. Antonio Gates
21. Ronnie Brown
22. Adrian Peterson
23. Tony Romo
24. Marshawn Lynch
25. Plaxico Burress

I don't remember what it was right before the draft, but I would bet any players that you do not change their ranking will get adjusted as yahoo changes them. Any player that you changed their ranking will stay as you changed them. If I get time I will read the FAQ and see if that is right.

Re: LDW 2007-08 Fantasy Football League - 10/08/07 12:57 PM

Week 5 Notes Before the Monday Night Game.

Well coaches, I’ve been busy and did not have time to post comments last week. I will make up for that shortly.

But first things first. Mike (Rifster) just informed me that he lost his father last month. I’m asking everyone to keep him and his family in your prayers. I lost my father to cancer as well a few years back, and my hart goes out to him. God bless you Mike, and I pray God helps you through this most difficult time. \:\(

Ok, as you all know Eye’s Exterminators currently holds first place all by herself, but is that going to change? It looks like it! The final score in that game is EE 37, Jerkstore 38. EE dropes to 3-1-1 and Jerkstore gets his second win of the season and is now 2-3-0.

The bye week is affecting everyone this week, so it seems. Another close game is Isola Girls and Village Idiot’s. IG currently has a 2-point lead with no players left to score for her, but VI has Marion Barber yet to play. If Barber can score three points tonight he’ll squeak by with a victory. Time will only tell.

Another close game that is going down to the wire is the matchup between Arnie’s Anchormen and sfrose’s rockes. SR holds a six point lead but both teams have players in tonights game. SF has TO which has been playing very well in the past few games, but AA has two players left, Romo and Lee Evans. And remember TO and Romo both play for Dallas, so if Dallas has a bad game sfrose will most likely pull this game out and upset one of the leaders. WOW, what will happen? Another, “time will tell” game for our league.

Speaking of one of the leaders losing, Nimshi’s Left Paw lost to Isolans by five, so they drop to 3-2 and Isolans improve to 2-3. And it looks like Gramma’s Gorillas will get flatten by the Steelers. Steelers currently hold a 13 point lead and both have one player in tonights game (GG-Lynch & S-Witten). Although anything is possible, but I don’t think Lynch will score 13 points tonight, much less out score Witten by 13. So if this plays out GG will drop to 3-2 and the Steelers will improve to 2-2-1.

Mysti’s Marvel runs all over the Village Eagles, winning by 18 and improves to 4-1 which could land her in first place.

So with all that said I’ll make some predictions. \:\) Here is my projected top two spots following tonight’s game. I project there will be a four way tie for first and a three way tie for second. WOW!

1. Village Idiots 4-1 with 374 points
2. Arnie’s Anchormen 4-1 with 341 points
3. Mysti’s Marvels 4-1 with 315 points
4. RifsterManiacs 4-1 with 275 points
5. Eye’s Exterminators 3-2-1 with 253 points
6. Gramma’s Gorillas 3-2 with 295 points
7. Nimshi’s Left Paul 3-2 with 293 points

Re: LDW 2007-08 Fantasy Football League - 10/09/07 12:42 PM

Week 5 Comments:

Well I was worried my predictions were going to be all wrong watching Dallas the first half, but they did come true (sort of), but it was very close. These bye weeks keep things interesting don't they? LOL

Ok first with the “Time to Tell” outcomes. Village Idiot's beat Isola Girls by one. And remember I said if Dallas has a bad game Sfrose's Rockes will pull out a win? Well Dallas one by one but Romo had a very bad game and Sforse's Rockets one by one! Another close game was between the Rifstermaniacs and Death Stew King (Currently known as The Bye Week). They were tied going into tonights game but Jones scored two points for the Rifster and he pulled out the win, 47 to 46. If you are counting, that is four games decided by two points or less! Great job coaches!

So with that all said here are the standings after week 5:

Village Idiot's 4-1
Mysti's Marvels 4-1
RifsterManiacs 4-1
Eye's Exterminators 3-1-1
Arnie's Anchormen 3-2
Gramma's Gorillas 3-2
Nimshi's Left Paw 3-2
Sfrose's Rockets 3-2
Steelers 2-2-1
Triton Tigers 2-3
Isola Girls 2-3
Isolans 2-3
Jerkstore 2-3
Juniors Tribe 1-4
Village Eagles 1-4
The Bye Week 0-5

So as you can see we have three teams tied for first, one team in second and four teams tied for third and five teams tied for forth. WOW!

Ok, now for some stats:

Lowest Score Of The Season: 18 Points by Jerkstore Week 1
Highest Score Posted: 90 Points by Arnie's Anchormen Week 1
Longest winning streak: 4 – Village Idiots & RisfsterManiacs
Longest losing streak: 5 Death Stew King
Most trades: 17 Sfrose's Rockets.

This week, the number one team in the NFL has a bye (Colts), as well as Denver, Pittsburgh, Buffalo, Detroit and San Fran, so this is sure to effect a few. (Me being one of them).

Good luck to all!

The Commis.

I found it somewhat useful as a guide to how other Fantasy Players ranked the football players.

Re: LDW 2007-08 Fantasy Football League - 10/15/07 10:21 AM

Ok, well not to many close games this week. In fact I think we can call all of them before tonights game. \:\( It looks like the three teams tied for first will remain that way another week. Eye's who previously held the second spot all by herself will drop to forth. Why you ask? Because she did not move her players that had a bye to the bench. But she was not the only one. \:o We now have a new all time low score. Isonlans were only able to put two points on the board! That's right two points. But we also have a new season high. RifsterManiacs scored an amazing 101 points! He is now a force to be reckoned with, so watch out.

More to come following tonights game.

Re: LDW 2007-08 Fantasy Football League - 10/15/07 04:13 PM

ouch!
Couldn't you have said the last place team instead of the worst?
At least let me enjoy my longest winning streak of the year.

Just for that, the Pats will be handing the Colts thier first loss soon.
Or will it be thier second? Or third?

Don't forget worst to first has been my game plan all along.

Re: LDW 2007-08 Fantasy Football League - 10/16/07 07:46 PM

Week 6 Notes

Here are the official notes for week six.

Fist we have to go over the record book. We have a new season high. Rifster takes replaces Jr. out of the high score bracket scoring 101 points? How did he do that? Good job Mike! Oh and we now have a new season low score. Isolans with only 2 points. How did that happen? The longest winning streak has now been pushed to five games in a row by Rifster and VI, and we now have a tie for the longest losing streak (5) between The Bye Week & Village Eagles. Since The Bye Week won this week Village Eagles could own that record all by her self.

As I said Monday morning the bye weeks really hurt a lot of people last week. Not so much due to the players not playing, but because the coaches did not replace them. So let's try and put five mins into this thing and swap out your bye week players with guys who are actually playing.

The league standings did not change much in the top five, but there has been some movement. Here are the current standings:

1. Village Idiot's 5-1-0 .833 452 W-5
2. Mysti's Marvels 5-1-0 .833 391 W-3
3. RifsterManiacs 5-1-0 .833 373 W-5
4. sfrose's rockets 4-2-0 .667 331 W-2
5. Nimshi's Left Paw 4-2-0 .667 324 W-1
6. Gramma's Gorillas 4-2-0 .667 318 W-1
7. Eye's Exterminators 3-2-1 .583 311 L-2
8. Arnie's Anchormen 3-3-0 .500 361 L-3
9. Isola Girls 3-3-0 .500 320 W-1
10. Steelers 2-3-1 .417 269 L-1
11. triton tigers 2-4-0 .333 297 L-1
12. Isolans 2-4-0 .333 248 L-1
13. Jerkstore 2-4-0 .333 178 L-1
14. Juniors Tribe 1-5-0 .167 340 L-4
15. THE BYE WEEK 1-5-0 .167 269 W-1
16. Village Eagles 1-5-0 .167 188 L-5

The big mover this week was Eye's Exterminators who dropped three spots.

We do have some interesting matchups this week. We have two 5-1 teams playing 4-2 teams which could change some things in the standings. Nimshi's Left Paw is taking on VI and sfrose's rockets are taking on Mysti's Marvels. VI and MM better be on their toes if they plan to hold onto a #1 spot.

One interesting note. If you remember be saying week on, it does not matter how many points you score each week, but who you play that week. Jr. pointed out that he has scored 340 points so far this season and sfrose's rockets who currently hold 4th place has only scored 331 points, but Jr. is listed in 14th. Don't you feel sorry for him? But that is how we roll in Fantasy Sports. Usaly they work them self out as the season goes on, but that has not happen for him yet.

Good luck all!

Well all I can say is this is the week for kickers! Look at these points:

Juniors Tribe – 18 Points
eye's Exterminators – 12 Points
Village Eagles – 29 Points

And what about Mysti's Marvels QB? 43 points!! That's more then 10 teams scored so far! But will it be enough for her to win? It doesn't look to good at this point.

As of right now, we have three games that could go either way! Will there be two teams tied for first after the dust settle???

It doesn't??? \:\)

I don't have the stat tracker and I haven't figured out how to score everything. I guess I'll wait til the morning to see how great my rockets did. I even gave Barbara a little bit of advice (as much as I figured out so far) I hope that I didn't steer her wrong, but I will be really surprised to have a win.

But Tom Brady was fantastic today. Go Pats! 7-0 (with a 42-7 1st half score!)

And as I'm typing this, the Red Sox won the ALCS Pennant!!! Back to the World Series!!! Go Sox!!!
Posted by: TheVillageIdiot

Re: LDW 2007-08 Fantasy Football League - 10/22/07 02:45 PM

I'm sorry to report that Barbara only has one player yet to play, Joseph Addai and she finds her self down by 18 points. Addai is capable of scoring 19 fantasy points but it would be a long shot. We will just have to wait and see.

Other notes so far. It looks like VI and the Rifster will both record their sixth win in a roll. VI is up by 11 and still has Payton Manning yet to play and Nimshi has no players left. As far as Mikey, he has a 16 point lead going into tonight’s game. He has his kicker yet to play and Isolans has her WR and TE yet to play. So for Isolans to pull this out, both of her players have to have a big came and score he at least 21 points for her to have a chance. This will be fun to watch.

Another game I think we can call is the VI Jr. and Steelers game. Jr. has a 19 point lead with no players remaining, but the Steelers still have Jacksonville’s DEF left. Can they score her 20 points? That will be a tall order for them.

And yet another game to watch is between the Triton Tigers and The Bye Week. TT is down by 8. TBW has zero players left to play and TT has one, Marvin Harrison. I think TT might pull this one out. Marvin should be good for 14 points tonight.

And yet another close one is Arnie and Eye's. Arnie is up by 11 with not players left, and Eye'sE has Jones-Drew (RB). To close to call this one.

High score this week so far belongs to Sfrose Rockets, racking up 83 points. Can she hold on as the high score for the week? I think so.

Re: LDW 2007-08 Fantasy Football League - 10/22/07 06:43 PM

Wow! I'm still not quite sure that I believe it! Going from not expecting to win against Misti's Marvels (and Tom Brady as QB) to possibily getting the high score of the week! And I could have gotten even more points with different Start vs. Bench choices. Who knew? The "experts" certainly didn't predict this.

ack, both of my def teams have a bye week next week! what do i do?
Posted by: sfrose

Re: LDW 2007-08 Fantasy Football League - 10/23/07 01:48 PM

You can trade one of you Def teams for one of the FA teams, or a player that you won't be using (like your backup TE), or trade with another manager for a Def team to use.

BTW, for this reason it is useful to look ahead to make sure that everyone's teams have the correct selection of players. At one point I discovered that my two "favorite" RBs both had byes in week 10, so I was planning in advance for decent replacements for that week. And ironically I may be using both of the replacements this week!

Another tip that I discovered is that you can preset each week's lineup in advance. That way if something happens and you don't get a chance to manage your team, you won't be stuck with a team full of "byes" or backups. (When you make trades with other teams, or available players, you'll need to check again on how things sorted out.)

What does "IR" in red next to a player's name mean? My usual QB has a bye this weekend and the guy on the bench (Jake Delhomme) has that.

Re: LDW 2007-08 Fantasy Football League - 10/24/07 06:00 PM

IR=injured reserve. So you might need to pickup another qb arnie. \:\(

Arnie,
Trent Edwards and Kelly Holcombe are good options and you won't have to give up someone.
IR means he pretty much is all done for the year so you could get rid of him or your worst guy.

And Jr, give me a good trade and I'll do it. But when you try and trade me two players that only score 1 point a game for one of my best players....come on!

Re: LDW 2007-08 Fantasy Football League - 10/25/07 01:52 PM

Week 7 Comments.

Ok first congrats to sfrose for bringing down MM and for posting the highest score of the week with 83 points! Good job sfrose! And with that loss, MM drops from second to third place and now just are two teams tied for first place, VI and RM. And on that note they both added to the record books for the season with six straight wins in a roll. Other upsets this week was Village Eagles beating the Isola Girls by four and Jerkstore over Gramma's Gorillas by 21.

The close games this week was Eye's losing to Arnie by three, and well that was about it. But with Arnie's win he jumps up four spots to fith place. Keep up the good work Arnie.

So here are the rankings after week 7:

Village Idiot's
RifsterManiacs
Mysti's Marvels
sfrose's rockets
Arnie's Anchormen
Nimshi's Left Paw
Gramma's Gorillas
Eye's Exterminators
Isola Girls
Jerkstore
Steelers
Juniors Tribe
triton tigers
THE BYE WEEK
Isolans
Village Eagles

We are half way to the playoffs, so everyone is still in it. All you have to do is keep some players in the game and you can make it. Playoff's start week 14 and the top 8 teams go.
The Commis.

Re: LDW 2007-08 Fantasy Football League - 10/25/07 02:04 PM

Oh I forgot to list the interesting match ups this week, so here they are:

Nimshi's Left Paw (#6) is going up against Arnie's Anchormen (#5) and both have a 4 and 3 record, so this will most definitely be a game to watch. Another interesting game will be the Jerkstore and RifsterManiacs game. Not because of their records but because Jerkstore is on a scoring rampage (he was the second highest scorer last week). Could this be the week RM win streak ends? And let's not forget about the match up between Jr and Isolans. Both have a 2 and 5 record, so some one will jump in the ratings there as well.

Good luck all!

Re: LDW 2007-08 Fantasy Football League - 10/29/07 01:17 AM

Week 8 Sunday PM Notes

Well most of the games can be called at this point, but we do have a few close games that will come down to the Monday Night game. One of most interest is the RifsterManiacs and Jerkstore game. The Rifster holds a five point lead with no players left, and the Jerkstore has one player left, his quarter back. If his QB score five points that will end RM's win streak and knock him out of first place. As you can see, a lot is riding on this game. Another close game is the Juniors Tribe and Isolans. Isolans hold a 9 point lead and only Jr. has a player left, his kicker. It is possible that that game will be won (Green bay/Denver) by the kickers so he has a chance. Our last close game is between Village Eagles and Eye's. The eagles have a 6 point lead and no players left, where as eye's has a RB (Henry). Can she pull it out? Only time will tell!

Mysti over Isola Girls
Sfrose's rockest over Triton Tiger
Steelers over the Bye Week.

Re: LDW 2007-08 Fantasy Football League - 10/29/07 04:22 PM

Some people may know that the NY Giants and the Miami Dolphins played their NFL game in London, England, yesterday. It was on TV snd I watched the "highlights". Since my regular QB has a bye I ended up with the Dolphins' QB, Cleo Lemon, in my fantasy team.

Even to my untutored eye, he didn't have the best of games, throwing the ball behind himself at one stage, and panicking and throwing it out of bounds another time. I thought I'd been sold a Lemon. (HAR HAR ... \:D ) Still, he picked up 6 points for the team ...

BTW, is he any relation to Meadowlark Lemon, the Basketball player?

Re: LDW 2007-08 Fantasy Football League - 10/30/07 06:14 PM

Arnie,
So what did you think of the sport in general? Have you seen one before? I think it's cool that they played over there for exposure.
I always wanted to see a cricket game/match. Why don't you guys send one over so we can see it. lol
Posted by: arnie

Re: LDW 2007-08 Fantasy Football League - 10/30/07 07:05 PM

I've watched the game on TV a few times before, including a couple of Superbowls. Trouble is, with the time difference, it's always been on after midnight, often well after.

My main complaint is the game's stop-start way of playing; 30 seconds of action, two minutes of nothing happening, 30 more seconds of action, and so on. It wasn't so bad in this particular game as it was only the highlights, but with other games I've seen it makes it seem really boring.

They were unlucky with the weather - it poured down all the time. The ball was like a bar of soap so it wasn't really conducive to a good passing game. The grass was also apparently shorter than the teams are used to so they were sliding everywhere.

Why not pop over to Barbados or Trindad or somewhere else in the Caribbean to watch a cricket match? At least you'll probably get good weather! ;\)

stinks you had to see the Dolphins play though. they are 0-8 and arent looking to good this season.

Re: LDW 2007-08 Fantasy Football League - 10/31/07 07:41 PM

NFL games were first brought to our TV screens over here after the launch of Channel 4 in the early '80s. At that time the Dolphins were the most successful team - think Don Shula, Dan Marino ... They probably have the largest group of UK fans, even now.

Also I understand they have been getting small crowds in Miami, so it makes sense to move the game to Wembley, where nearly 90,000 saw the game.

Re: LDW 2007-08 Fantasy Football League - 11/05/07 11:51 AM

Games that can be called so far.

VI over RisterManiacs.
The Bye Week over Isolans
Arnie's Anchormen over Gramma
sfrose's Rockets over Isola Girls
Village Eagles over Nimshi's Left Paw
Juniors Tribe over Jerkstore.

Games to close to call

Mysti's Marvels vs. Eye's Exterminators
Mysti's Marvels hold a 15 point lead and all Eye's has left is the Baltimore Ravens. The Ravens can score here 15 points if they have a good game.

Steelers (12 Points) vs triton tigers (20 Points)
Steelers have two players left and they need to only score 9 points, so I think steelers will have a come from behind victory, but who knows.

Re: LDW 2007-08 Fantasy Football League - 11/05/07 08:24 PM

In either case, it'll probably be a record for the lowest number of points for a win!

Also, I'm not sure (yet) exactly how all of the defense points get scored, but it looks like it might be possible for the Isolans to also come from behind to win.
Posted by: Wonka2

Re: LDW 2007-08 Fantasy Football League - 11/05/07 09:39 PM

Sure, if that defense scores more than any defense has all year.
Posted by: sfrose

Re: LDW 2007-08 Fantasy Football League - 11/05/07 10:30 PM

OK, I may be missing something again...

The current score is:

THE BYE WEEK: 48
Isolans: 32

A difference of 16 points.

TBW has his kicker playing in tonight's game (for Baltimore); Isolans' (Pittsburgh) defense is on the line. The Pittsburgh defense has gotten the following fantasy points:

  1. 20
  2. 11
  3. 11
  4. 6
  5. 15
  6. bye
  7. 6
  8. 6
So it is certainly possible for this defense to score more than 16 points. There are often been defenses that have scored more than 16 points.

Also, TBW's kicker has so far scored 2-16 points, and I've seen kickers have negative fantasy points or get replaced early in the game, so a high score there isn't definite.

VI may be right and the game could already be called, I'm just saying it ain't over until it's over! The Pats certainly proved that by coming from behind to beat the Colts yesterday!

Re: LDW 2007-08 Fantasy Football League - 11/05/07 11:19 PM

Re: LDW 2007-08 Fantasy Football League - 11/06/07 09:25 PM

Thanks! Though I wasn't expecting it to go that way, it just looked like a possibility.

I also don't think you've been eliminated from the playoffs yet, but making them from last place with four weeks to go may be very difficult.
Posted by: TheVillageIdiot

Re: LDW 2007-08 Fantasy Football League - 11/07/07 11:43 AM

Week 9 Notes:

Well Village Idiot's win their eighth game in a row. When will they stumble? And I'm afraid Eye's Exterminators has now joined The By Week and the Village Eagles with the longest losing streak of the season. I case you forgot what the record for that was, it's 5. Can she make it six and hold that stat all by herself? Very likely as she is playing sfrose's rockets this week. 8/

Other records this week is the least amount of points scored and largest victory margin. The [poor steelers are just plain old rusting out. They could only come up with 15 points this. Ouchie!! And Jr blew out Jerstore by 73 points. Is that still called a game?

Close games this week. The Bye Week lost by one point to the Isolans 49 to 50. And the Triton Tigers pounced the steelers by five, 15 to 20. High score this week was posted by the VI and VI Jr. with both teams scoring 91 points.

So VI holds on with first place, Mysti's Marvels in second, sfrose's rockets thrid, Arnie's Anchormen fourth, RifsterManiacs fifth, Gramma's Gorillas sixth, Nimshi's Left Paw seventh, Isolans 8th, Village Eagles ninth, Jerkstore tenth. With the top eight teams going to the playoff, no one has been eliminated yet, so get going and win!!!

Interesting match ups this week?

RifsterManiacs vs. Arnie's Anchormen, the 4th and 5th place teams.
Gramma's Gorillas vs. Village Eagles – both have a 4-5 record.
Triton tigers vs Isola Girls – both are 3 and 6.
Isolans vs. steelers. If Isolans lose they will be out of the playoff's for now.

And the big game of the week. Juniors Tribe vs. Village Idiot's. Jr. is trying to make it to the playoff's, but will his dad let him in this week? Naaaaa, he ain't so nice! But Jr. has been able to post big numbers from time to time, will this the week he takes down his old man? Only time will tell, it will be played out on the field.

Re: LDW 2007-08 Fantasy Football League - 11/07/07 01:56 PM

And yes, great call Sfrose! I stand corrected. Not the first time, nor will it be the last I'm sure. \:\)

And I think everyone still has a good chance to make it to the playoffs. So don't give up just yet, we still have four games to play before the playoffs begin.
Posted by: sfrose

Re: LDW 2007-08 Fantasy Football League - 11/07/07 03:20 PM

Thanks! Before the week, I would have guessed that TBW would have won, but I didn't have a chance to complete all of my "voting." I just compared your calls for each match-up to see if I agreed and noticed that the Isolans weren't completely out of it. It also looks like having a DEF on the line for the Monday night game is a good things since they may try harder (or less likely to make mistakes) for a national broadcast.

Another comment to the Week 10 games, Mysti's Marvels may be in trouble this week since Tom Brady and the Pats have their bye week and so does the Marvel's backup QB! Can she still pull out a win with no QB?

I also noticed that we have five teams at 4-5, and fighting for the last couple of play off spots. But four of those teams have absent managers and it's amazing that they've done as well as they did without adjusting for byes and injured players!

I have a question, there is a noticed that trading ends on November 16. Is that just between managers or also trading fro FAs or Waivers? Could that be changed? With managers who aren't "playing" that in effect "locks" 14 players per team from ever being available and with another manager being a "spoiler" things could get even more difficult to adjust for injuries in the remaining part of the season. It may make sense to not allow trading once the playoffs start, but why stop it before that?
Posted by: TheVillageIdiot

Re: LDW 2007-08 Fantasy Football League - 11/09/07 01:38 PM

As a rule we stop all trading with the playoff just to make sure a team that has no chance to do anything doesn't trade his best player to a “friend” so that friend has a better chance to win the super bowl. If you all want to put it to a vote, and if 75% of the peeps want to do away with that rule I would consider changing it. Another thought would be starting a new league for just the teams that made it to the playoffs, have a new draft and have two FF games going? Does that sound interesting to anyone?
Posted by: sfrose

Re: LDW 2007-08 Fantasy Football League - 11/09/07 02:22 PM

OK. I understand stopping trading for the playoffs, but the trading deadline date posted on the settings page is November 16. That was what I was questioning...
If the trading was to stop for "our" playoffs" I would have expected a trading deadline of December 3 (the last game for Week 13...)

A second league could be interesting, but I'm not sure that I'm quite ready for two at once. ;\) Besides there is still the possibility that one of our "non-playing" managers may make the playoffs. ;\)
Posted by: TheVillageIdiot

Re: LDW 2007-08 Fantasy Football League - 11/09/07 02:41 PM

I see what you are getting at, but it is still there for the reasons I stated. Around the 16th there still are a lot of teams that could make it to the playoffs so they will not want to take the risk. After the 18th there probably be fewer and that is when some trades might look better, as the teams out for sure will have nothing to lose to give up there good players for players that don't score anything. It's just there to make it fair. I've seen friends trade to great players cuz they were out of the playoff for two players that scored half the points they gave up.

But again, the league owners want to drop this rule, I will consider it. \:\)

Re: LDW 2007-08 Fantasy Football League - 12/01/07 06:41 PM

I still think it is strange that we have three managers who haven't logged in since before the draft and one since the beginning of October and they are all doing better or the same as eight managers who are paying more attention. \:o

So I went to look at what my standing would have been if I kept my original draft settings the same all season. It turned out that I would have also had a 6-6-0 record (I would have lost three weeks, including my "upsets" over Arnie & Mysti (Barbara))

But who knows how everying else would have changed if others grabbed some of the Waivers and Free Agents instead of me! ;\)

The lesson here is that the original draft was probably pretty honest and fair, and if I didn't lose player early due to injury I would have done much better this season (and without so much of my angst!)

But even knowing that, if I play again next season, I'll probably tweak my draft settings and end up at the bottom of the pack along with the rest. \:D

Though it has been a learning experinece. Last week was hard because of difficulties in deciding which non-performer to put in as QB, and I heard that Testeverde was bench as I was on my long drive home from Thanksgiving. I was tempted to find a WiFi spot to adjust things, but didn't. In a way I'm glad that there wasn't anything I would have done to change my loss to a win.

Re: LDW 2007-08 Fantasy Football League - 12/12/07 08:59 PM

It's playoffs! The first week didn't have any upsets as sfrose's rockets, Village Idiot's, Arnie's Anchormen, and Mysti's Marvels all easily coasted into the semi-finals. Gramma's Gorillas and the Isolans did amazingly well considering that they seemed to be absentee managers all season. I'm routing for RifsterManiacs and Eye's Exterminators to win this week's games, even if they're not in the final four.

ITMT, THE BYE WEEK got 85 points in week 14 games! That's the second highest score he got all season! It's too bad we were already in playoff mode!

It looks like it'll be a close game between VI and my team, but I've seen projected points go all over the place, so I'm not counting on anything until next Tuesday morning, but will be routing for a Chicago win Monday night. Of course, I'll also be routing for the Pats to win, but by not too much so VI doesn't rack up the Def points. ;\)

My guys didn't do so well in the games yesterday. There were low scores all around, but some mangers were hurt worse than others.

I still have my kicker in tonight's game, but VI has a WR & RB (playing for the opposite team!) I suspect that he'll keep is winning streak going.

In other games:
Arnie still has a player in tonight's game and the defense for the other team, but will need 15 points to beat Mysti's Marvels! (Even with Tom Brady not earning any fantasy points yesterday! But at least he didn't go negative like Arnie's QB did.) It's possible for Arnie to still to pull out a win.

In the consolation semis, absentee managers Gramma & Isolans (probably) will move ahead to the 5th place game. (Eyeshigh has the other kicker in tonights game, but needs 20 points to beat the Isolans.)

But I'm still happy:

New England Patriots: 14-0!!!

Hey sfrose, thinks for keeping everyone updated. We got some bad news over Thanksgiving week about my wife. She has breast cancer. But God is good and he has shown us time after time that He is in control, but that has kept me away from other not so important matters as I’m sure you can all understand. If you want to read her story you can check out her caring page at http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/kelli

But on to FFB. This time of year is very dangerous for fantasy players. Why you may ask? Well the teams who are in the playoffs and do not need any more wins might sit their starters so they are fresh for the playoffs. I would have to assume that is what happen to Barbra. So you all have to careful. But now since all the dust has settle we find The Village Idiots and sfrose in the second annual Last Day of Work Fantasy Foot Ball Super bowl. VI is projected to win, but as sfrose has said those projections don’t amount to a hill of beans. But I have to think I’ll be crowned the champion! ;\)

My best wishes to your wife and family. I understand that priorities need to be made about what is most important.

The LDW Fantasy Football Superball is actually between the Village Idiots and Mysti's Marvels. It may be a close game, but as you said, people may be in for surprises as some teams decide to rest their stars.

However, many of the low scores from Sunday were due to the bad weather. The Patriots won again, but as I said Tom Brady just didn't make the connections like he did in previous games. (Instead one of our touchdowns came from the Defensive team, part of the reason why VI got 21 points!) And even though the Pats have earned home advantage through the playoffs, they aren't taking it easy since now they want that "Perfect Season." 16-0, and 3-0 in the playoffs!

My other predictions (not so hard with only Monday's game left) were correct:

Final
(1) Village Idiot's vs. (3) Mysti's Marvels

3rd Place Game
(4) sfrose's rockets vs. (2) Arnie's Anchormen

5th Place Game
(8) Gramma's Gorillas vs. (6) Isolans

7th Place Game
(5) RifsterManiacs vs. (7) Eye's Exterminators

The matchups are all pretty even, so it should be an exciting week. Good Luck everyone!

A belated congratulations to the Village Idiots! A well played season. I'm still a bit shocked that I came in third in my first ever Fantasy Football.

Are we going to have a 2008-2009 season, or is it too late to get started?
