For Real...What's Going on With VF3?

I know, I know. This has been asked a million times before; but it's been 4 months since the intended release date. We're 1/3 of the way through 2016, with little to no info. I don't mean to be impatient(I apologize if I come across as that), but what's going on with it? I'm in no hurry, just curious about how it's coming along:)

Also, I'm wondering about some of the features. What's to be the same as previous games, or different? Is the premesis(fixing up a house) the same? The animation?

Actually i'm ok with current information and also i'm not very interested in VF3 but i think you should update it because all the people here are extremely impatient now. Maybe you can update previews page and add some new ScreenShots or just increase the progress bar?

Yeah that's what I think it's not really fair because we were told the release date ages ago which I understand that there are bugs etc. But Atleast an update now is required

I want to know a range of release. I'm not talking within the next week or even month. I'm more interested if it will be out before September, which is about 2 and a half months. Obviously I can wait, but I'm kind of hoping it'll be out before September so I can play a bit bbefore school starts up again.

Wow... I didn't see this one before. I wonder why didn't they add a progress bar with %70 to previews page. It would be really helpful even though it wouldn't be accurate.

Update! On VF3 Page on main site, new URL, it says plan to release sometime in 2017

It was supposed to be out by last year. I'm getting tired of waiting. I understand it takes a lot to make a game
, and that they're a small studio, but this is getting a little upsetting. I've been waiting for almost two years. Even if we got another trailer or some preview images or something I'd be happy for now.

Thanks, Heather! That post is still relevant, but I can offer a bit more that might help everyone.

Yes, life and work threw us a few curves over the last couple of years that put us behind (you might say waaaay behind). In a small team like this, a few disruptions have a much bigger impact than they do in a large studio.

We also put some new features into the game that everyone had been asking for, and those slowed us down, as well. In the end, we decided to delay a handful of the trickier features in order to finish the game and get it out there for everyone to play. Hopefully, VF3 is a success, and we will be able to add those features and more, just like we did with VF2!

For now, I'll comment on what we have in the Previews page, updated for where we are now:

Virtual Families 3: Our Country Home will be larger and more customizable than Virtual Families 2! (The map is roughly 50% larger than VF2's map to accommodate a larger home and provide room for outdoor things and activities.)

Some of the features we have planned are:
- More flexible options for families! Have larger families! (Families can include 12 children in VF3.)
- Improved social features! (Delayed)
- Modular, reconfigurable house (The house starts small and can be expanded. A couple of rooms need to be finished, and many other rooms can be added. Rooms can be changed to meet the demands of a growing family.)
- More advanced decor and furniture placement options (Partially delayed)
- Gardening and lawn care (Partially delayed)
- More of everything! (New furniture and decor, new and updated peeps, different story line, updated goals, new and updated behaviors and events, and many more!)

We are still working very hard to finish everything up in VF3, get it successfully through QA and beta test, and deliver a shiny, new game to all of you. We really do appreciate your patience. We know that it's been a long wait, but hang in there. VF3 will be in your hands as soon as we can possibly make it happen (but please don't ask for a date - we just don't have one yet).

Haven't been around in a long time, but decided to come check up on the game. I'm glad to hear it's still coming along; I figured it was scrapped or something. I hope the game won't be rushed because I'd like to see as many new features as possible make it into the finished product. It sounds great, though.

Although ethnic diversity wasn't listed on the previews page, it's one of the often-requested (now-delayed, but not abandoned) features that we started working on. It turned out to be complex enough that it will have to come in a later update to the game.

The issue has been explained in the forums before, but our games have grown since then and an update might be helpful. The real complication is that the heads and bodies are separate images in the game, and any head can go with any body. Since the skin tones of the face and body need to match. we needed to come up with an entirely new way of handling skin tones in the artwork. Every peep in the game has at least 85 images making up their animations and portraits. There are well over 100 peeps in VF3, comprising almost 10,000 images - all of which have to be displayed with the appropriate skin tone when we implement ethnic diversity. If we made a separate set of animations and portraits for each peep in each ethnic skin tone, it would easily increase the game size to the point that it wouldn't fit on many people's devices. We have a better way worked out, but it will take time to fine-tune and get it ready.

Apart from the black people, will you also have pale skin with Asianish eyes?

There are already a few peeps with Asian features in the game.

I'm getting upset. I was okay with waiting, I knew they were working hard, I was waiting (mostly) patiently. But now they are releasing Fish Tycoon 2, which is great, but why is VF3 on the backburner? I've been waiting for almost 2 years since they announced VF3. Fish Tycoon 2 is expected for release in early 2017, but no word on VF3? Grr.

Heh. Two years is nothing. A lot of us have been waiting SIX years for any kind of official statement from LDW regarding whether or not they've abandoned the VV series. At least VF3 has been confirmed.

FT2 was and is designed by LDW, and is an LDW game. However, since we have been, and still are, hard at work on VF3, FT2 was developed for (and with) us by Gogii Games. Perhaps that will shed some light on the subject!

It's awesome to hear some news about VF3, I have had my VF2 on pause now for some months. So many families now I have lost count hahah.. Really looking forward. One thing, I sure wish we could some how take our money from VF2 into 3? Maybe that could be a option? I agree with what was said in this post. It can be confusing when people keep posting the same things in different topics, so I figured I would link to the other discussion.

Like JudasFm, I've been playing LDW games a long time, and I've seen LDW take a lot of abuse from people when they have given an estimate of a release date, and the game isn't ready "on time." Arthur even told us many years ago that he would stop providing estimates, for that reason. IIRC, VV4 got delayed when Arthur and Carla had a baby. Stuff happens, and there aren't a bunch of people at LDW who can take over at times like that.

There must be reasons for the game taking so long, and it's not like I don't have anything else to play. When they are ready to give us an update, they will. Badgering them doesn't help. So, I just check the previews page once in awhile, in case there's an update.

Just my two cents.

Why can't the company have another group of ppl work on virtual families 3 they did it for fish tycoon 2

I don't think they did happen to afford it when the development was newly started, as it's confirmed that projects for FT2 started "well before" VF3.
Since they already hired partners for FT2 (and maybe VVO2) at that point, it's possible that they couldn't afford another co-developer.

OR

Alternatively, may be they wanted to handle VF3 by themselves, to keep pure LDW soul.

These are only my assumptions and not anywhere near to canonical though.

I cant believe this! We've waited far too long for virtual families 3. Its not fair how firstly, you didn't even release the game when it was meant to be released but the least you can do is give us regular updates and you don't even give us that either! You know you are totally justified in moaning about the wait for VF3. Sorry we are taking so long (I use "we" but it's mostly "me" that's slowing it down).

So, why is it taking so long? 1) Life. Life happens sometimes...I've been keeping things moving, but getting busy with my own little virtual family (my real one) and that takes away my available work time often. 2) Growing the company. I have been working with our partners to keep things growing, keep new (often smaller) projects moving along, and keeping our staff paid and fed and loved. 3) Revisiting what we want from Virtual Families 3. We are so proud of Virtual Families 2, and it really is our baby. We had finished probably 3/4 of VF3 when we stopped and really assessed what it was we were making. Barbara, in particular, has been a huge advocate of making sure that VF3 isn't just VF2 "rehashed". We are adding meaningful, deep changes to it, making sure it is cute and deep and that it shows all the love we are putting into it.

Anyway, sorry again for making you (and everyone) wait so long. I have really cleared my plate from the partners-work and distracting side-games I've been helping with, and we are geared up to have all 4 wheels on the ground at full speed in January. Virtual Families 3, and ONLY Virtual Families 3!! It is mostly done, also, to be honestly.

I've spoken with Barbara and we've agreed to allow a few more leaks of meaningful new content, as well, so you guys can see what we are working on, and so you will have some idea of how much is left to go. Stay tuned for real, meaningful updates!!

We do understand that many people would like to see more varied skin colors or cultural representation in our games, particularly in the Virtual Families games, where the little people are not all members of an isolated island tribe. We are improving the diversity in our more recent games, such as Virtual Families 2: Our Dream House, which includes little people with Asian and Hispanic features. As we are able, we will continue to expand the cultural diversity, as you can see in our game Virtual Town, currently available on most mobile devices.

There are technical reasons for the comparatively limited skin colors in our older games that you can find in a discussion on our forums. While you do not need to participate in our forums, I'd like to show you a topic there that mentions a very important reason why the games do not have more color diversity at this time.

I’m just wondering- often times when games get delayed it’s frequently a budget problem. The game goes over budget and finishing the game becomes difficult or too expensive. If that’s the case, is there any way we can get a kickstarter going?

It’s been almost 3 years since the intended release date.

Keegan, we don’t blame you, we know you’re just the messenger. You probably get tired of hearing people ask for updates.

Given that the updates are becoming more rare, and it seems to be a long way from completion, I certainly hope everything is ok. Usually when games are delayed, they’re not delayed this long. Or if there are specific delays, usually we’re told why. EA for instance, mentions they need more time to work out bugs or fine tune the game. Delays are usually a month, or a few months at the most.

LDOW’s games are not complex games as EA’s games. I’m guessing there is a problem behind the scenes and probably some snag to further developing or completing the game. Whatever it is, they aren’t comfortable sharing it with fans, and I can understand that. However, the game being “highly anticipated” is becoming questionable. This forum is really dead, and even on FB, I don’t see a whole lot of people asking about the status of the game. Those that do ask are pretty angry!

That being said- thanks for the games you have put out. It’s been a fun ride.

Will VF3 be released for PC or Windows tablet? I truly enjoy the VV and VF games!!! Would rather not purchase from BigFish. Purchased VV Origins 2 from Bigfish, sadly missing features available on other platforms.

We're not sure of the full list of platforms that VF3 will be available on yet, but all of our previous games are available through us on PC, in multiple versions. We'll endeavor to bring VF3 to as many platforms as possible! Thanks for your comments!

Ladycfii's last update (click the link in the post SilkySpotanus made above) said that they were completely redoing VF3, and it sounded like it was not going to be a quick thing to do. That update wasn't quite 2 months ago, and I would guess that they aren't far enough along to have any news for us yet.

Ah so there IS still some progress happening on this game. I just tuned in today cause it had been years since I was last here curious about its status. Glad to see it is still under development! Though RIP its 2019 release date. Here's hoping to a 2020 release at some point this year...

I can’t believe we still haven’t got an update on the game. It’s so frustrating that we don’t get an actual update. There’s no updates on any of the pages so please don’t even try redirect me to the Fb page. The least we could get is an update to whether the game is going to be released or not!!!!

Hi, Stinkycheese. I want to make sure that everyone understands that the VF3 beta test on Google Play Beta is still going on. I'm not sure where you got information that it was closed, but it's not.

If you're unable to sign up for the beta test, it just means that the maximum number of testers for the current phase of the beta test has been reached. We are still running the beta test for VF3 on Google Play Beta, and we will be increasing the maximum number of testers as the beta progresses.

All you need to do is keep trying periodically to see if you can sign up.

To report bugs: from within the game, tap Menu, tap Settings, then tap Contact Support, which will open an email for you to use to report your issue. It will be pre-filled with important information that we use to help us resolve issues, so please don't delete anything. Just add your report beneath the pre-filled text.

LadyCFII is there any particular protocol to leaving feedback? I sent a lengthy email and a few screen shots. I wrote below the pre filled information, but I just want to know if there's anything else that can be helpful.

I would like to know this too. I report some things that I know are bugs and some things that 'might' be bugs. I don't want to lose my test spot so I'm not sure if I should email you guys weekly or not.

Another thought.. for the people that are beta testing will we have to out right purchase the game once it's officially released to the public?? What about for the people that made in game purchases with real money? Not sure how this works

As you can imagine, beta tests are very busy times for us, and it's not always an easy thing to keep up with all of you!

The best things all testers can do to be extra helpful are:

• Use the in-game Contact Support button to create your feedback email so that we have the game information we need to analyze the bug.
• It's best to report only one bug in each email to help us keep things organized and make sure we don't miss things, but if you want to include everything in a single email, please keep it organized by bug.
• Accurately describe the issue that you see, including screenshots when needed to show what's happening.
• Tell us how to recreate the problem, if possible. Some bugs never get fixed because we can't reproduce them here.

Hi, when will the game be open for beta for IOS users?

I don't think they know yet. They didn't even add lawn,pets or fix the rest of bugs for android and the beta for android started in may 2020

Hmm. Well, i'm just glad that the game is still currently in development. Honestly, I thought the team gave up working on it long long ago so i'm very happy to see even just this amount of progress, even if it isn't a lot.

Hey.. since I haven't got replies back on my emails from weeks ago I'm going to say this here:

-Why is it that some of us have gems and pretty much can only use gems and not the coins? and no real way to EARN gems

-What is the purpose of using facebook with this game?

-The updates you guys have done recently haven't fixed the furniture popping back up in the inventory and so on

I know you guys are small team and busy but I'm frustrated with lack of communication. Some of us honestly don't know whats suppose to be what at this point

To be fair, this community has kind of stagnated as time has gone on. There just doesn't seem to be that many active people around anymore, including Staff. So, it should come as no surprise.

That's why I said i'm happy that the game is still in development at all, to be honest. This game has been in development for YEARS now though. Like literally YEARS.

Does make me wonder if it'll ever TRULY release, and if so, if this might be the last major new game from LDW due to the stagnation in activity in all sectors.

Since they don't have any other major projects listed on their homepage. If so, the only thing left for the future might just be further ports of their original Virtual Villagers games like they did with the first and second one more recently.

It's a shame, really. But i've come to accept this as reality, especially given these people have been out here making these games for literally over a decade now, I kid you not.

Regardless, I just hope the game company doesn't die out as a whole after Virtual Families 3 releases, that'd truly be a tragic end for a once fantastic video game development studio.

I am not new to the games. I've played their very first games until now. I don't see the excuse. It's like in recent weeks no one is doing or saying anything. When you ask for beta testers they expect communication point blank period. If they are having a hard time or something they could say it but oh well. I'll go somewhere else then

Yeah tbh I haven't seen much activity anywhere. I didn't even know there was a Beta for the game up until a few messages ago, so it doesn't seem like it was really publicized much either. Like I said, I just hope this doesn't mean that the end of the company as a whole is drawing near but I really wouldn't be surprised if it does. At least they had a good run...

I don't know about "anywhere" but there has been activity here and on Facebook, which are the only official sites LDW uses to communicate with us.

LadyCFII talked about the VF3 beta several times in the News and Announcements "What's new with VF3?" topic and the Developer Feedback forum. She made sure we all knew how to sign up for the beta and what to expect. On the Virtual Families Facebook page they announced the beta back in May, and they posted several times to let us know when new slots open up.

I also know that beta tests are very busy times for any developer, and they probably don't have a lot of spare time to chat with us.
