Please, please help. I wanted to mess about with the colours and make it all pretty but its all gone wrong. I changed the colour of the mushroom in caring as described but now whenever anyone is caring anything it id encased in a big white frame. I don't know how to change it back. Can someone tell me? Cheers.

try moving and renameing the images you changed and reinstalling. should put pictures back to normal

Before making any modifications to the game image files, it's a good idea to keep a backup of the original in case you're not happy with the modifications (:

On the line dancing bit, maybe perhaps you had a group of people that were all the same age and they just all croaked. But they went together because they were kids together, teenagers together and adults together. So they figured they had to leave the village together too. Hehe

Mitws, I used your mod but all it did was make the back ground grey instead of white. Not sure why. I right clicked on the image and saved it as 'carring' is that correct? If not what do I need to do?
Also someone said to move the file and download the game again but would this get rid of all my progress? Thanks.

okay guys I need help! when I look in Windows XP help about the "prtscrn" function they just talk about actually printing a hard copy - somebody PLEASE tell me how to capture a screen image in the game! I've had over a dozen moms all nursing together in the village center, a mob of about 20 kids in front of the school, a number of "conga lines" to bury the dead (clearly some twisted people working at LDW - I like it!) and I won't give away what GC does when you drop him in the ocean...lol

rai78: Yeah, it needs to be a .png file. If you save it in any other format, you will run into background issues.

You do have to click print scrn. Then open up an imaging program such as paint and click paste, and your image should show up

Ok. Thinking of just giving up so frustrated! I now have carrying saved as png but it not working. They appear to carrying nothing. Should not have meddled, but any ideas of how to bring back my babies would be great.

LOL all the women in the village are nusring. I have 73 villagers. 2 adult males, 15 nusing mothers and 56 kids/babies. I tried to get them all in the picture but they wouldn't all go to the school at the same time.

Make a new folder in "My documents" and call the folder VV or Virtual Villagers then save your pic to that folder.

If you want to, pm me for my email addie you can email me your pic with what you want on it and I can do that for you in PSP then email it back to you.

when I went to check on one of my villages, the population had dropped to 65 overnight, so I intervened and got every women in the village nursing - unfortunately there were only 18 who were old enough - the oldest is 74!

Notice the population is 92! Surprise! lmao now I have villagers worried about housing too and all the huts are built.

If you still haven't figured out how to take a picture, on my computer I have to press "Alt" and the "Prt Scr" button together. Then paste them into paint shop pro and save them as a jpeg file.

I still need to figure out how to paste them right into my post, not as attachments though...

Take the picture with the "Print Screen" and "Function" buttons on your keyboard. Open a photo editing program like Photoshop or Paintshop Pro or even MS Paint, paste the picture there. Crop or resize to whatever you want, save it. (JPG or GIF format are clearer but Paint doesn't give you that option.)

Go online to a host site like Photobucket.com and set up a free account. Upload the pic. Highlite and use the IMG tage they give you in your post. There is your pic.

Okay, here's a Laleche league meeting from my oldest game. The pop had dropped to 50 - now every woman over 18 is pregnant! The mother of the twins who's highlighted is 77 - the same as the new population! And I've got another set of twins and a set of triplets - hope you can see them all.

Here we go again! I finally figured out that if you PAUSE the game you can actually POSE your villagers! D'oh! The thing that is so special about this pic is that I arranged the ladies by age.
In the back row we have 7 nursing mothers in their 70's.
Next row is 8 moms in their 60's.
We only have 2 moms in their 50's & none in their 40's (should have paused the game overnight!).
We have 9 moms who are "30 something" and last but not least 2 in their 20's.
Don't you love the girls with fuschia hair and purple dresses! Somebody should report these women to "what not to wear".

I thought of so many possible captions for this one - but in the end decided to let you add your own! Here we have 27 nursing moms (one has twins, so 28 babies). The Golden Child is standing in front of them all talking to a villager who I renamed Maury. How about "Maury finally wins a daytime Emmy for a paternity show?". I have to be careful here so I don't offend the sensibilities of the people at LWD who censor these posts, but I can't help wondering how many of these mothers "went indoors" at one of the G.C.'s parties?

Finally found a real job for G.C. as a dance instructor! When I lined up all my kids I discovered I didn't have enough to set a new record(only 47 apart from GC), so I plunked G.C. down in front of them all and named this image "hokeypokey".
Can't you just hear him? "Put your right foot in, put your right foot out..."...lol And there are a couple guys in the back row facing the wrong way, of course...

In my third game the population had dropped alarmingly, so I had to keep sending all the female villagers over 18 indoors to get the numbers back up. I'm pretty sure this is a new record - there are 59 children ranging from 2 to 10! Pretty cool, huh?

Well I have just completed my first game on hard (I still have to get the level 3 medicine tech). I managed to complete all the puzzles but I did have 7 villagers die - 2 of starvation and 5 of old age. I am going to have to try a little harder next time. I just opened up my game to see how everyone is doing. And to see if I had enough points for that last tech yet. I couldn't believe my eyes at all the babies. 2 twins and 2 triplets at the same time! Someone has been spending a lot of time indoors!

Well my GC got sick and while I was watching to make sure no one would heal him .... yeah I know ... wanna see if he would die... he sat down .... is it just me?? or is his head NOT attached to the rest of his body??

Sjarko, open it up in paint, then click on file|save as. Then in the File type, select on jpg. That will convert it to a jpg file, then you should be good to go!!

You have to post the pic on a web server. I use my own web page, but there are several free sites that let you post pics and they will even give you the web address for it. If you search these forms on "how to post a picture" you should find several threads on how to do so.

That will happen in several other places as well. Always during the startup, or when the temple is completed. The program randomly selects where to put villagers, and I guess it thinks that would be a good place.

I like to refer to it as jail.

Haha. They both turned up as original island settlers in a Hard Game... one is 7 years older than the other... I thought it funny/interesting that out of four adults (and the only 2 males), they shold be exactly alike. What are the odds of that?

i thought i'd introduce you to meathead

this is one of the stupidest V V i ever met.he was helpping to build the hut but was too stupid to get out of the way when it went up. well he was stuck for about 15 of our min there till i took pitty on him & got him un-stuck(laughed every time i looked @ him,had to stop laughing first).i still get a good chuckle when i think of him spinning in circles trying to release him self.ROFLMAO!!!!!

That's something that people are doing with screenshots using image editing programs (such as Photoshop). It can't be done in the game.

Hey everyone! Here's my little group. Got this game last night and I'm having fun with it. I wasn't able to get a picture of them doing something funny so I went with something more formal.

From left to right: Keiki, Hika, Koka, Tau, Kalea, Tenai, Nasha, Sogan, and Hakan.
Hika is the daughter of Keiki and Sogan, he's also the father of Nasha's child. Koka and Tenai are the daughters of Kalea and Tau.

Attach it then when your post comes up click on the attachment. Copy the URL. Go back to your psot. Click on edit. Click image, past the URL into the box that pops up hit ok. Then click continue. Then Voila! you have your picture in the post.

For the first one I just waited for GC to have a party, for the second I paused the game and posed him. Actually I was thinking of using the overview map for a background (implying GC can fly as well) but this was simpler.

Dudeman,

You need to go into the VV folder on your harddrive. Mine is located at C:\Program Files\VirtualVillagers_at. In the images folder you will find .png image files. You would open them up in a graphic editing program (i.e. photoshop, etc) that is capable of saving them in the same format, then just edit, save, and restart your game. Warning: make a backup of the files in a different folder before you edit them just in case something goes wrong.

Something just happened that made me wish I could record a video. I've started a new game where I'm trying to do the puzzles in the order they appear. Right now I'm waiting for the builders to clear the last rocks from the stream, but it's going to be a long wait for the graveyard as my oldest villager is only thirty something.
Anyway getting the school was a bit funny. I kept waiting for my adept scientist to improve his skill. Fortunately a random event had given me a child prodigy who had been trained to top level in science, so plan B was to wait for the kid to grow old enough. I followed him around a while muttering things like "Grow up already, stop goofing around!" Then nature called, and he went to sit down in the garden. When he got to his feet again he was a Master.
So basically you can say he spent his birthday taking a dump...

How are you doing your screenshots? They aren't automatically saved on your hard drive - you have to paste them into an image editing program (such as Photoshop) and save them manually. I make a special folder to keep all my VV screenshots in, so they're all in the same place that's NOT in Program Files!

For Toontown screenies you just hit the F9 key and they automatically go into the Disney folder.

I was thinking that doing the puzzles in order sounded like a fun challenge...so I started doing that too.... how exactly were you planning on doing 10 before 13?

With a terrifying Island Event, the remaining villagers were so happy to be alive, that a Baby Boom occurred. From this point forward we'll refer to this group as the VVBB (Vitual Village Baby Boomers). Together they can change policy, change the way of the island, and when they're elderly they can drain the resources of the younger villagers.

Here's Iruwa, one of my young villagers. I noticed that she seemed to do everything at the double, running everywhere, and when I looked in her details, sure enough, 'running' is listed under 'likes'. She even swims at top speed.

Has anyone else had a villager who shows their likes or dislikes like this?

Yep I have had a couple (unfortunately in different games) like yours and also a couple (luckily in different games) that DISLIKED running and went everywhere at a snails pace and practically stopped moving when elderly.

Yes, I have one 54 yr old lady who still out runs the teenagers. She would even beat all the males to the "Love Shack" and be in and out before they even arrived :rolleyes:

I tried to get more kids from her hoping for more speedy workers.... so far no luck.

I also have a male who does Not like rocks. When I put him on the rock pile he kept running away.

But he is fine now helping build the third hut.

I just got a second runner from the following generation. I lost track of who was whose baby, so she might be Iruwa's daughter. I've also got a 7-year-old girl, one of whose dislikes is 'playing'!

I had my only 2 adult females in game preggers at same time and had there kids at same time. 1 had a set of twins and the other a single child. They where all boys and they look alike but for the cloths so I couldn't resist and change them to look like triplets. What is the odds of that?

The only time we've seen that happen is when the computer's system clock has been changed (either intentionally or unintentionally). Is that possible here?

Terri that will also happen if you pause the game before you click on the details button. Was the game paused when you clicked on the detail button?

If that was the case, when you turn the pause off, the counter will adjust back to the correct time.

Yeah it was on paused but shocked the heck out of me. I couldn't resist. I learned my lesson bout system clock. I don't do that anymore after I killed so many villages when I first downloaded game.

Hi! I'm also trying to finish the graveyard last, but even on 1/2 speed, I'm having trouble...Bajantara, how did you get over 500 hours of game time with no one over 59? I must be doing something wrong...getting tech in the "wrong" order or not having enough babies soon enough? Help appreciated!

not sure which mode you're playing on.. I had to adjust for Hard Mode.. but the other two I went Science 2, Farming 2, Medicine2, Science3, Farming 3, then the other second levels, then Medicine 3 (or building if you calculate you have enought time to get medicine before they get elderly), then the others.
I get one baby around 6000 tech points, and end up around 12-16 kids by level 3 farming. Start of the game, 2 farmers, 2 researchers, one trainee doctor and one builder. Once food gets to about 600, I switch out one farmer to research, and the other farmer when it gets about 700, and just top up from time to time. The minute the doctor becomes adept, I put him sometimes to help build, sometimes to research... that's how I generally start.
Hard Mode I had to do Farming2 then Science2.. but the rest was pretty much the same.

I had to share because I am excited about the first set of twins without Level 2 Fertility...I'd heard it had happened, but didn't think I would get to see it in one of my games! Too bad everyone's prancing around and being "worried about housing" since the village went from 14 to 16 population and didn't have the second hut finished yet! lol

Sweet now i have to think of my ideas again! Im still working on my guide as well. Time is not what it used to be, at least not for me lol. Its about 10-12 pages so far and im adding in all the extras i can think of, event information, puzzle solutions, i intend to try and make it a fully picture illustrated full guide as best to my knowledge anyhow.

Jomo and Meka are both Master Doctors. I decided to try mating them to see what would happen. It only took one try and now Meka is nursing triplets. I guess they used some fertility drugs or something, LOL. I hope they all have Healing skill once they are weaned.

Yes, Anji, admit caption not great but I had so many bald boys in previous generation in this VV (out of 18 births, 15 bald boys!!), got excited at "having" girls, and pretty ones at that, haha!! Just had to post the triplets and the other two, and no, I didn't intentionally put them in those horrid green frocks, they arrived that way, haha!!

They did this for quite a while.

I looked at their Actions, the girl was praising and the boy was complaining.

They were doing this at the back of the research table, then the girl went to the Circle of Stones with the boy trudging behind her. I guess she told him

I use photobucket too. Under the picture, it should have a URL address. Copy that and when you post there should be an "Image" link under the Instant UBB Code section. Once you click on image, a box should appear and you paste the URL address to that, and then you can post your picture!

You do not know how much I appreciate your help. Sigh. When I don't know how to do something, my brain is much like a stubborn villager. I have to be dropped on the berry bush more than several times

Plus side is once I understand something, I am equally stubborn about mastering it

I have some Halloween villager pics that I want to share, as well as a memorial I did for a village that met its demise at my hands.

I was sleepy when I decided to close down both of my villager games. I thought I had paused them, but in fact I left them going at 2x speed.....

I killed one game. I was going for points, goal was fishing, and so I had them all researching. They stayed at their table and starved. Makes me mad because I always have researchers wandering off to farm. Wish I knew what made this game different.

The other game had such a good mixture that they didn't need me.

Welp, I several things to do right now, Cat maintenance (I have six litter boxes to scoop) and the brewing of coffee, so I'll go do that, and then try the Photobucket thing again.

When I first started playing on the Mintaka account, I had a good doctor, Tanak. He was VERY devoted to finding all sorts of ways to learn medicine.

Er, well, really, whenever my doctor finished studying the cactus, he'd stand there for a bit, then the computer would say he's doing something else, but he hasn't moved off yet, and the 'he improved at healing' bit is still there. I figured the screenshots would make people laugh their butts off.

I had finished a game and left it for a couple of days. When I checked on it I had about ten Master Doctors. How that happened I have no idea, as no-one had it checked, and I'd had no doctors on leaving the game. When I looked, they were all ex-scientists, who of course were surplus to requirements after I'd got all the tech levels and solved all the puzzles.

A discouraged hello everyone.
I am trying to put together a winter mod....but because the maps are in pieces I do not know if my finished product will be any good.

Thank goodness for Mark. I do not know how many times I have stomped into the livingroom complaining that I am talentless and have no business even doing something like this. He gives me a long look, and tells me to get back to it because he personally wants to see what I come up with.

Here is one map piece. I added two little villagers for this showing. I did the villagers last month I think it was, and saved them as PaintShop Pro Tubes, so it only took the blink of an eye to add them.

Grin. Here is one piece. I tried to soften the flowers to make them look more natural. Need to work more on them :p

I was really waiting for him to go in the water. I had to be quick to pause it when he got close, and go make the picture. And I had made up things to say for when he went fishing and everything.

Then he got to the edge of the water and stopped. He turned around and went foraging. I couldn't touch him because he would drop the rock. But when he got out of the bushes it was a bowl of fruit. I'll keep an eye on him. I just know I'm going to catch him with that rock again. When I catch him... you will know about it!!!

how did u do that with ur pics i like the way ur kid is hanging upside down but how did u get the head off

i just mess around with the image files..like i rotate the bodies and the heads so they upside down.I didn't make them upside down after i took picture,they actually upside down,but i didnt change the action position,so when they do action head still upside down but body isnt.

Thanks Debra, I've never been a "prequel" before, haha!! I enjoyed your rock saga, they really are little "rockers", haha!! I wrote a poem about them if you're interested, it's on the poetry thread.

I've now put together a few snaps about the age old question of "who's the daddy?" just for a laugh. I know we've all looked at the parents and then the children, thinking, how could those two VV's produce children so dissimiliar to themselves. Glad to know that VV2 will improve the "parent" thing, haha!! Hope you all enjoy this little tale!!

Sadly, Dr. Shane died just before his last daughter's birth, hence the final portrait.

It would be possible, but would take us away from working on VV2 to make it happen!

Creating such a slide show would require gathering up all of the images and hosting them on our site, then putting them in some sort of slide show format. As it is, many of the images are scattered far and wide on various other sites, with only links to make them appear in the posts.

OK I'm going to try this, I had an event where there was a watertight crate that was opened and this was discovered:

OK - why diapers? The kids pee in the flowers!
By the way - I rename all of my people based on the generation (M15) and the age of the person. That way I know who it is by clicking on them.
But I thought the diapers was interesting. I wish that I would get one of the other events like the whale or debris from a storm, that would keep my villagers busy. Oh well, lots of diapers instead.

Something really funny happened to me today.
As usual when a child turns 14, I pick them up and decide what career path he/she should take.
Since I felt like I was low on farmers, I decided to take my newest "adult," Kyle, into the sea to fish.
After shaking his head at me numerous times, I dragged him onto the fields to get some crops. Same thing happened. So I dropped him onto the berry bush...

At first, I thought I might have dropped him on another villager, so I tried again... But it kept on happening.
Confused, I checked up his details and found the answer.

No honestly I didn't - I just knew someone had died but then it still said 90 people so I checked for who had the baby and how long she had left and it came up like that. Lol. Its not like that anymore though - I clicked out of it and then in again and it was 104 xP

There are two things that can cause the nursing timer to have that kind of value - pausing the game, and changing the computer's system clock. I suspect it was one of those two things. If it was due to pausing the game, it will return to normal as soon as a different game speed is set. $\:\)$

I've played with the blackhole phenomenon myself! First noticed it when I was piling kids on mushies. Was hoping one would fall through and land in VV2. $\:\)$ Or maybe that my GC would get sucked in .

beleive it or not, mine did not die. but i was a micro manager the first time around. i think my pop was 35 before i quit pausing the game every time i went to another window. i was obsessively looking for mushrooms for food, and i got really really lucky on my events. i didn't almsot kill that village until months later. oops

Whoa.
So I left my game on 2x speed for a while, but was too busy to check it for a few days.
I come back, and everyone has passed away from old age except for 6 20 year olds.
Realizing my mistake, I put one of them on "breeding".
So, my game was still on 2x, and I was still very busy.
I just checked it this morning, after like 2 days, and this is what grew from my 6 people village, all from this one guy.
All females above 17 were pregnant and my population was , with probably 3/4 children. oO

You need to have your pictures/screenshots available on a web site in order to link to them from your post in the forum. There are many free picture hosting sites, such as http://www.imageshack.us or http://www.photobucket.com that you can upload your pictures to. Once you have uploaded your pictures, copy the link to your picture and paste it into your post. Most hosting sites have tutorials that explain how to link to your pictures.

The picture needs to be in an allowed format and size, and you need to upload it using the avatar function on your profile page. Is that not working for you? Are you getting an error message?

OK! I'm not the most computer literate person on the planet (or village). I created a pretty good scene and managed to save it to my own documents (pictures). I have tried a few things to move that picture here, and have to admit I'm stumped. Any suggestions for taking a pic from one's own computer and getting it here?

For Windows you press the print screen button (top, right-hand corner, near there) and download it on an imageshack or photobucket account.

For Mac, you press apple-shift-3 for full screen pic and apple-shift-4 if you want your pic a certain size (and then download it on some photobucket/imageshack account)

You have to use a program that preserves image transparency, otherwise when you save it will convert the transparent background to white, thus making a white square in the game $\:\)$ Such programs would include but are not limited to Photoshop, Fireworks...

there are events that can keep the village going...all she needs is an event that gives her another tribe member

if you don't mind "cheating" you can try again and again until you get the kind of event you want

VERY STRANGE! Upon opening the game one day, one of my nursing villagers was asked if she wanted to open a rotting crate. I made her open it, rats jumped out, bit her and she became sick. But she must of put her baby down somewhere because the baby was missing. Even stranger was when I opened up the game the next day and she was sitting in the ocean. When she came out of the ocean she was still sick and somehow her baby turned into a giant crab!!! Yes, my friends she was taking care of a giant crab. Maybe the crate was cursed or something.

This is a villager I called Hypa these are the pictures of her life from the age of 3 until she became an Esteemed Elder.
The first picture is a scrapbook callection of her life, the next 2 pictures is when Hypa become an Esteemed Elder.

In my village my poperlation dropped from 115 to 52 as there were 64 elderly villagers and only 3 femails at child baring age.
Now I got a 4th femail just turned 18 lost 2 more villagers :(.
I now gone down to 48 so i lost 3 more villagers and my younger female Aponi has baby. I got no more females as the oldest is 5 years old so 13 more years.

Oh no I just returned to my game I'm down to 47 and I clicked on to 74 year old and then she just dropped dead watering the crops popperlatin down to 46 I counted 15 elderlies of which of 13 of them in their seventies, Maybe I should make sure that the birth rate is evened out in future not to have too many babies born at the same time. In my other 3 games the poperlation has been from 90, 115 to 117. I sopose this happens if your villagers are all the same age. $\:\($ Luna's just gone

LOL It happened to me also! It's a great "suspense moment" when the kids run around the hospital before going to the research hut!! If they take a butterfly near the diving rock, they first go to the north! I each time say: "Hey, come back!!!" then they come back!! $\:D$ And, there is also a strange way they take near the research table. They take a zigzaging road!! $\:D$
