I only rename duplicate names. Although having a girl that likes snakes and is named Tuna just kinda shows what her lot in life is, Tee hee.

Re: Poll: Virtual Villagers Names - 08/07/06 05:51 PM

i rename duplicates when i don't have that many villagers. once you get to 90 people, it really doesn't matter anymore. occasionally i'll rename one if i really don't like their given name, but i usually leave the names alone.

I've left my kids with orignal names till a trait comes out...

My ppl are not surviving very well though... hrm

I haven't renamed any of my villagers, but I am sorely tempted to rename a new kid I got... tempted to call him "Sauntering Sam". I can understand that he he dislikes running, but jeez.. does he ever take his own sweet time getting from point A to point B!!! It's like watching molasses go uphill... lmao

Re: Poll: Virtual Villagers Names - 08/10/06 03:58 AM

i sometimes add a last name that relates to their job ie. Farmer= Fam, so that when i switch them from researching and then need to switch them back they are easier to find. instead of having to look at everyone's details to find my farmer cause he has crops to harvest but has become an adept scientist.

Oooooo!!!! I love the idea of having a second name to remind you of their job. It's so simple yet I would never have thought of it. I sometimes end up with people of the same name, I've even had a man and woman both with the same name. Very strange. My daughters fascinated by all the names and it's added a whole new dimension to her role playing.

I also rename them after their jobs. Mr. and Mrs. Farmer, Mr. Build or Prof if I train them to be scientists...I try to keep track of the marriages in the beginning. I caught Mrs. Build one time in the middle of flirting with mr. Farmer...Put a stop to that flirtation, the moment I walked in on them! (Yes,the ocean worked fine). I also tried to ad sr. and jr. to names, in the beginning, but it seems there are limitations to the length of the name? Well...never mind, we'll work around that one.

I didn't even know I could rename villagers. I'm gonna start now. Some of them just deserve new names.

I would have liked to call one Lazy Idiot, but he died with his whole village in an interesting computer clock timing experiment.

LI got on my nerves so bad, I would have killed him off deliberately if I'd had a chance. Everybody was working but him, and he always walked around with the label "Bored" underneath his current activity. Hello! It's an island with no electricity for your computer, LI, of course you're going to be bored! lol

Re: Poll: Virtual Villagers Names - 08/14/06 04:22 AM

i keep the same names, but i try to keep track of whose kid was whose by adding a last name to each of the kids. (i.e. keiki + olu = jane kelu)

it gets kind of hard to do when kids start popping up all over the place, but the sense of order gives me a little bit of peace. (anal much? i know, i know...)

Hi,

I "roll the dice" to make sure to get 4 males and 3 females, with the youngest being female and 6 years old. Then the men get names starting with a different Vowel each, the females with a consonant. Then their kids get the first two initials of their parents names...boys starting with dad's name and girls starting with mom's name. If possible, I keep the ending they were given though...not sure exactly why!!!

(yep, another anal...lol)

Re: Poll: Virtual Villagers Names - 08/19/06 01:01 PM

In my first village, I renamed all the villagers, either to family & friends, names I have always wanted to call my kids, or something related to their job (Fani for Farmer, Brik for Builder, etc.). At some point, though I reached a population threshold where it didn't matter anymore, and there were too many people.

In another game I've renamed every villager with a number name using a combination of English, Spanish and German, with appropriate endings for male/female, and slightly altered spelling so it looks vaguely "islandish". Examples: Cinco (guy, 5th villager), Twentitresa (gal, 23rd villager), Fiftifunf (guy, 55th villager).

Please keep this feature in future versions! It's one of things that makes the game fun, and gets you hooked at the beginning, because you care more about someone you've named (especially when it's family or friends).

I'm on my first game and everyone gets named after a "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" char.... Some have stayed true to character (Faith breeds everytime I turn my back) and others well, Spike was not happy doing anything but research, go figure... But on my next game I think I am going to name them after "Survivor" characters... I can't what to see Richard after the beach is cleaned

Re: Poll: Virtual Villagers Names - 08/20/06 10:24 AM

I always change their names. The first village I have I try to keep the first letter of their name the same.

The second village I have I'm starting to name them after the various Neopets I have.

Re: Poll: Virtual Villagers Names - 08/20/06 08:41 PM

I rename duplicates if there's still a living villager with the new kid's name. I've taken to naming masters at their profession "Dr. -" or "M. -" whatever. Silly, I suppose.
Posted by: Go_Ravens

Re: Poll: Virtual Villagers Names - 08/22/06 09:47 PM

I've had some pretty funny given names too...Hiji, Ciuk, Kukua, and Lala just to name a few.

In my first game I kept track of the first 70 or so and who they bred with so I could rename the kids with a combo of the parents' names(anal much LOL). It DID make it easier to remember who they all were once I took the time to come up with a name and change their clothes to something I thought suited them.

I like the idea of the tv show characters! How funny...think I'll make my next villagers the characters from Six Feet Under, since all mine seem to end up there anyway...hee hee

My fave name that I came up with is Cheoshi (Master Doctor daughter of Cheop and Nishi)...probly cause she's one of the "prettier" villagers...curly red hair with flowers and the (coordinating, of course...grin) orange, amber, and yellow long dress. I am SO addicted to this game!

Re: Poll: Virtual Villagers Names - 08/23/06 06:24 AM

I was leaving their given name and providing them with a family name indicating their heritage. KissaTuKay, for example, was Kissa from mother Tuna, father Kayak... this got to be entirely too complex to track once I had a population boom. For a while I tried to breed for specific traits such as pink hair... this didn't work out very well, however.

Re: Poll: Virtual Villagers Names - 08/23/06 11:40 AM

In my third game I decided to do finally do some creative naming so I can keep track of who is who instead of having 3 Hotos, 4 Sevens, 6 Kayaks and such. I devised a plan for the generations starting with the first one named after fruits, 2nd gen named after gem, 3rd named after the CSI charactors and 4th named after friends and family. Not sure how that is gonna work since I want to keep track of who bred with who. Everyone came up with good ideas on names and I am trying to take some of those ideas and put them into my games.

I have been changing thier names to something I like and that suits them and giving them a single letter to inticate their tallent. Joe F for a farmer for example. the children only get an initial if they are born with a talent. It makes figuring out where they are supposed to be easier.

I leave the name the same, but have given last names to the people of one of my villages. However, there were only two couples and an infant. What about the inbreeding factor, you ask? Gonna burn that bridge when I get to it

Re: Poll: Virtual Villagers Names - 08/29/06 04:05 PM

I rename duplicates. I'm not organzed enough to figure family trees yet--I'm only on my first and second games still. Some of the standard names I just didn't like, so I love this feature. "Tuna" was one of the ones I couldn't deal with, but "City" was okay for some reason. I'm thinking of starting a new game just to play with the names more--I like the idea of giving each generation a different theme.

Re: Poll: Virtual Villagers Names - 08/29/06 06:57 PM

I tried to do that also, give different names to the different generations of villagers. Somehow I managed to get totally tangled & mangled & banged up somewhere around G or H. But hey, it was something to do! Always open to new ways of making the game more interesting.

Re: Poll: Virtual Villagers Names - 09/04/06 04:17 PM

My grandchildren and I play this game and we check on them every day 3 or 4 times a day. All our Villagers are named after family members. It is really funny when they want someone to die off because they are mad at them. I make them heal them and love them anyway. This game has taught my grandkids a lot about life. We use the villagers when they have problems in school and don't want to learn something. I will say "what do you have to do to the villagers to make them learn?" They say "make them do it over and over". I tell them the same goes for them. I love this game it helps work out a lot of things with the kids.

Re: Poll: Virtual Villagers Names - 09/04/06 05:14 PM

Ok, I'm fairly new here, but I devised a way to keep track of my villagers that's been working for me. When I first started, by luck of the draw, I ended up with a bunch of villagers with 'A' names. So I went with that and made sure my first 6 all had 'A' names. Even the little kid. That way even if I can't keep track of the mom and dad, I can at least keep good track of my first, second and third generations. So my next gereration will all have 'B' names and so on. Also, I gave them just one letter last names corresponding to their job. For example:

Anya H - Female Healer, 1st Gen
Aiken B - Male Builder, 1st Gen

Boron F - Male Farmer, 2nd Gen (rhymes w/moron on purpose)\

Etc, Etc

I figure I wont get to the X's, but if I do, I'll just have to get really creative! Oh, and my 'breeders' last names are 'M' for mom or 'D' for dad. Works out pretty good and that way if they happen to be born with a cool native name, I can just change the first letter to whatever letter goes with their generation and still keep the native-like name. If their name just has to be completely changed because its really weird (tutu, chicka) I just try to stay authentic and give them an exotic island type name that I fabricate.

Just my method to the VV maddness! BTW, whoever put that their husband hasn't has a hot meal since they discovered this game...ditto for me!! LOL!

Re: Poll: Virtual Villagers Names - 09/05/06 03:51 AM

In the beginning, I renamed them all, usually by their trade, lol. I.E.- farmer, healer, builder, breeder. Now that I have 91 villagers, I only rename the ones that really crack me up. For example, my GC was named Tofu. And that was just not a regal enough name for him. Then, I had Obi, who quickly became Obi-Wan!

Re: Poll: Virtual Villagers Names - 09/07/06 05:17 PM

I name my first generation with A, then the next set with B..so if you start a new game you get one kid, that kid would be a "B". The next set starts with C, and so on so I can get the generations straight. I don't know if it's working for me yet.

I have renamed several of mine. There is the one that looks like a Goth kid... black clothes and the white Kabookie makeup.. I named him Manson.. for Marlyn Manson. I also named one of the girls Paris(.As in Hilton). cause she is always dancing, and being lazy around the village. Re: Poll: Virtual Villagers Names - 09/17/06 04:54 AM

I've taken to renaming my villagers names that suit them. Such as the grey haired male was renamed Einstein and became a Scientist. Red-haired pony tailed female is Scarlett (she also had the red dress). The male brown bowl head was renamed Dude. Spiked brown haired male became Spike. I guess my favorite though is the male black haired with the grey sides, his new name was Dracula. I have fun trying to think of the names that match them.

Re: Poll: Virtual Villagers Names - 09/17/06 10:32 PM

I started renaming to keep track of the villagers easier. I started with me and my family. Then went on to name people after some of my favorite tv shows, I have the cast of House, The andy Grifith show, Gilligans island(simply because they were castaways of course) etc. I started then in on naming them after my employees. I realized I was losing touch with reality when i started to freak out over people breeding that are named afer my family members. I was like that is your brother, duh, it is a game take a break from the computer.

I rename mine, but I keep the first letter the same, unless I really think a certain name suits that villager.

At first i named them after how they look - i also had an einstein with grey spikey hair who became a master scientist

but then my harry potter obsession took over and i gave everyone names from harry potter but when the population got too big and i couldn't think of any more harry potter characters i left their names as they were.

by the way, my einstein got renamed to dumbledore

When I have a boy with a very girly name like Nina or something like that I make it more male.

And sometimes when I'm feeling blue about my love life I name one of the blond girls after me and one of the men after a celeberty I like. Making me the most pathetic woman on earth as I breed them....

Sometimes I name the girls with green headbands "Ethibi", the dark-haired girls "Isabel", the gray-haired or bald men "Old Person", and some of my male breeders "Omar"(Only if I have had a fight that day with my dear friend Omar).

Re: Poll: Do you change your villagers' name? - 12/22/06 04:47 AM

my students like it when i name my charaters after them. they always want to know how old they are, how many kids they have, when they die, etc

some of them like having several characters named after them at the same time, so i always have lists of names when new kids are born.

and they like to see the graveyard with their names on the gravestones for some reason, and brag about how old they lived. they get really competitive about it sometimes.

Don't worry, Math, I'm sure some folks here name their characters after Harry Potter, Lord Of The Rings, Artemis Fowl, or Star Trek characters.

One time I named my villagers for two characters from the Barry Manilow song Copacabana - Tony and Lola. I picked them speficially to breed the GC.

Re: Poll: Virtual Villagers Names - 12/23/06 12:44 AM

lol jami.

i have a village i named after different characters from all sorts of genres. renames my golden child eragon in it too. might have to change that after seeing the movie. i think i'll stick with books from here on out.

i had Odysseus and Penelope in that village when it started. i laughed my head off when I saw Circe kiss Odysseus and he ran away. also have characters in there names after the amber series...Random is my favorite name in there I think. have names of Kings Dark Tower series, from Laurel K Hamilton's Anita Blake series. I just mix them all up. the only like really pop culture thing I did was name one of my really weird looking guys Klingon, because he just reminging me of one when I saw him. Don't actually watch Trek (or Wars for that matter) so I didn't know the names of any actual Klingons. ooh, wait, Wharf! haha.

i'm thinking of starting a csi village, and naming all the characters off the CSI characters, and the real actors, but then i'd need to do law and order too...hrmm...

Re: Poll: Virtual Villagers Names - 12/27/06 09:05 AM

You mean you wouldn't name your daughter Tuna?
lol

Maybe I should start a colony of villagers with real (and I mean really horrible) names that real people have given their kids. I read somewhere that there are actually a lot of babies named Female (rhymes with tamale) because people thought that the hospitals had named their kid for them. Then there was my teacher friend who had a student whose name was the same as the technical term for certain female parts because the mother didn't know what the word meant and thought it was pretty, or the kid I have named Irbeng because his mother couldn't spell Irving. Oy. Or I could name all the boys Isabella, since for some reason I have several male students whose middle names are Isabella. I don't ask why. Then I have a friend with an Uncle Red and Uncle Blue. A friend with a second cousin named Nylon. And one I can't put in here because it is actually a bad word.

I don't even want to talk about what celebrities are naming their children nowadays. Did you know that Sly Stalone has a daughter named Sage Moonblood? While I think Sage is a pretty name, who on earth names their child Moonblood? His other 3 daughters have the same middle name. Rose. Apparently trying to make up for Moonblood.

I'm thinking Tuna might be a good choice. *sigh*

Re: Poll: Virtual Villagers Names - 12/27/06 07:00 PM

My first game, I only re-named those with duplicate names or ones that were too weird to remember, changing these to actual Hawai'ian names. (Kimo, Keala, etc) Now on my 2nd game and am giving them US / European names and giving the 2nd & subsequent generations "surnames" which are a combo of their parents names so I can remember who is whose kid. Oh, and I'm databasing them in Excel with year of birth, year of death, parents, grandparents, etc. Managed to avoid inbreeding in generation 2 and minimize it in generation 3 (Some was inevitable, as I started game with 2 females). So far, this is part of the fun of the game, although it might sound a little OCD. Whether I keep it up by game 3 (or whether it starts driving me nutso by the time I get over 50 people), time will tell.

When I worked in Georgia (former Soviet Union, not US), I had a friend/co-worker named Khatuna (pronounced pretty much like "Hot Tuna" by Anglophones who couldn't do the "kh" sound) and nicknamed "Tuna" for short. It's a fairly common name in Georgia. Also had a friend named Dodo. Similarly common.

I name the researchers names that start with "R" (Rita, Roy ...) Builders with a "B" etc. Makes it easy to grab people to direct them \:\)
Posted by: Mosey

Re: Poll: Virtual Villagers Names - 01/10/07 06:47 PM

I do always. And I give them names that start with the first letter of what I want them to do. So researchers are Rocky or Randi or Rene and farmers Frank and Francess etc. Healers are most important to name with H names so you can find them in a healing emergency...they often end up being Masters at a different type of job so it's not always easy to find them.

I also agree that when the village starts filling up it's too hard to keep track of that - nor does it matter since you have enough of all kinds of workers that it doesn't matter who does what.
Posted by: tomteboda

Re: Poll: Do you change your villagers' name? - 01/20/07 09:56 PM

I keep the first name, but I give the children last names based on their parents.

For example, Unagi and Lanu had a daughter they named Nunai, so
Nunai'ulan

Kwame and Okai had a son they named Kito, so Kito'okwam

Now, my villager Banga went and got pregnant without my knowledge, and she's been pretty tightlipped about the father of her son, Juro shares no known characteristics with any of the men, so I've named him
Juro'bson.

I sincerely hope I don't have this problem too much. I'm charting all the relationships to make sure no relatives breed with one another (at least to the 2nd degree).

Obviously, I put the game "on pause" overnight, or I'd have a village full of
Lulu'udotar and Hoto'bsons.

Posted by: Raynbow

Re: Poll: Virtual Villagers Names - 02/16/07 08:07 PM

I take the first letter of the name they came with and rename them for someone I know or a common name I like... for example City could become Cyndi or Chelsea, and Mahalo is now Michael. Occasionally I'll leave their names alone for a generation just to make it easier at a glance to delineate ages, but most generally I change them.

Yeah...just like some of you, I rename duplicate villagers. One time I had two guys who not only had identical names, but almost identical appearances too. The younger one had his name changed, pronto! Only once did I name a villager by a traditional Western name. I called him George - don't know why! Sometimes I add a syllable or two. Tuna has bothered me as a name for a girl...Tunaia becomes the "new" name instead.

Re: Poll: Do you change your villagers' name? - 03/15/07 10:11 PM

I got frustrated remembering names in VV1 so in VV2 I renamed them all with American English names. I named the two adults Adam and Eve, and then named all the children alphabetically with names beginning with A to Z, and then over and over again. I started skipping some letters because there are only so many names that begin with Q, X, Y, and Z. I occasionally leave their name if it begins with the right letter and is normal enough for me.

At first... I took the HONOR of naming each child. I still keep my "fanny" for my master farmer gal in each village!! and I have Fav names for certain "looks" BTW... I DO have a dark skinned person. Been hearing a lot of chatter about it (lack of) just wanted to let people know. and happy to say that my villagers took off in a raft recently to find the other village.. interested to see how that works out. My oldest village has over a million tech points, and I let them progress as they wish. Interestingly enough, they all find something to do. Re: Poll: Virtual Villagers Names - 04/09/07 02:44 AM

I got really really frustrated with my a group of very lazy villagers...had a run of luck where i got several (as in over a dozen) who did not like running, working, or learning, or who did like laundy and resting

so i renamed one of them Marshall Herff (aka Marshall Herff Applewhite, founder of the Heaven's Gate Cult) and set him off to make some magic stew so they could go catch the spaceship before it was too late

i then redressed all of the people so they were dressed identically, and let them follow the path

After all of his comrades had gone to the big mothership in the sky, i sent him to join them

Not making light of the tragedy of the cult, i just had to set apart the villagers i intended to make go away, so it wouldn't be easy to knock off just any villager at any time i want

has to be some ceremony to it yanno

I find it annoying to have two Villagers turn up with the same name. They should be able to stop that in the program. Also annoying is a distinctive Villager which has one name in one game, and then they turn up with a different name in the next game. That should be able to be stopped, -perhaps something for VV3.

Well, I once had a tribe where I went through and renamed everyone in my tribe after Mexican foods. It was fun trying to come up with 45 distinctly mexican foods that matched gender. I would name all the females with foods that ended in "a" such as Flauta, Fajita, and Enchilada.

I would name the males with foods that ended in "O" like menudo, Burrito, and Taco. This was fun until I was running out of foods. Even when I was at a restaurant I would look through the menu and see things I missed. I would go through and find something and think "'Chimichanga'... now why didn't I think of that?"
Now that I am writing this out, this seems a bit weird but then again, that's me. \:\) Besides, no one knew what I was doing. It was all in my head, like those voices... "Shhhh.... stop talking. I am trying to type right now" \:\) J/K (Just Kidding)

Then I got lazy and just used whatever appealed to me. Lately I have been using the names that the game picks except for some of the more rediculous ones like Bobo and Titta. I hate those so I change them. The game loves to duplicate names so I change them too.

I usually only change the duplicate names. Sometimes I change names that I don't like. Generally though, I let the names alone.

What other "Q" names have you used?

My iPod nano also requested naming the first time I plugged it in.

I happen to know a young man with the unfortunate last name of Podd, so I borrowed his first name for my iPod(d).

He was not amused.

I rename the first group. and maybe a few others if the names are just way to strange. but i rarely ever change the first letter. ex. city, becomes cindy. the odd little man with the name lelu, becomes lenny, or larry. depends on my mood.

I try to follow a theme based on the name I chose for the tribe. Celtic names if I go celtic clan, Redneck theme, Preppy/Upper Crust so to speak. Right now I'm working a Victorian theme along with some short stories and an ongoing narrative.

Re: Poll: Virtual Villagers Names - 09/18/07 02:28 AM

I've had to rename a few because I dress the doctors in "green scrubs" and the Elders in white. It gets confusing when they have the same name and look alike. A couple of times I've renamed some villagers...lets just say a very bad name, like one female who, while there was no food in the bin and she was a farmer, decided to go to the love shack. Yep, I was very angry when I had to constantly scan the grounds for mushrooms. I also renamed the daughter who was, I'm sorry to say, stupid.

LOL Zaratu! I have named a few 'dummy' or 'lazy'.

Re: Poll: Virtual Villagers Names - 10/17/07 06:47 AM

In my first tribe, I didn't and I had trouble keeping track. I didnt rename them because I wanted the tombstones to have same tribal-sounding names.

The minute I learned the trick of the stews, I created another village and named them after my officemates from my jobs haha. The good ones get totem's named after them

Another, when I only wanted runners and elders, I named them 1-100, with only the runners and elders having names.

A final tribe I created from experience, I name them my long lost friends and acquaintances, That way, I can remember the good stuff while playing

Re: Poll: Virtual Villagers Names - 12/09/07 04:35 AM

I change duplicate names, but recently I find that about every five minutes or so real time, my people's names change to someone who is already there. Sometimes I start out with one name, then five minutes later everybody in the group has the same name.

I started making a list of the original names and what they're wearing, so when names change, I can go back and look at my list and change their names back to their original ones. But then if a kid comes up with the same name and the same outfit as an adult it's hard to keep up with after they reach working age.

Re: Poll: Virtual Villagers Names - 12/09/07 06:08 AM

Today, when I came into VV2, I had FOUR (count them..4) little 2 year old boys named "Ponui". Now, one is fine, two is OK, but FOUR at a time is excessive! Needless to say, I renamed them all. I tend toward using vaguely Polynesian-sounding names. And, I'm not so sure that this game doesn't learn names, because I sometimes get an actual combination of the parents names.

I am on this kick of having blonde haired people so when I recently deleted one of my old games, I started out with just a couple of 'other' color hair but now since they died off I finally have done it! A tribe of 28 blondes! And yes, I rename mine most of the time. I watch a lot of soaps/tv so I name them according to hair color! On my VV1, I stopped naming them after a few months! I have 3 games still going on since back in April '07! I can't wait for VV3!

I, also change names only when I see a lot of duplicates. Isn't there some way you could do away with duplicates? Sure, in reality people have repeat names, but we have two or three or four names to minimize confusion.

I change names most of the time, til the village gets so big Irun out of names! & imagination. I have 2 new villages (I love starting out best) & I name them according to how they look. I have a Sven, a Marina--haven't thought of a good name for the girl with white hair, she looks so Norwegian. They all have last names, too, but sometimes I give the kiddies their mothers surname, if its in danger of disappearing when there are no more men with that name.

Re: Poll: Virtual Villagers Names - 02/02/08 09:37 PM

Yeah if I get duplicate names, I have to change one. I had a 5 or 6 yr old girl named Ebi and when another baby got 2 yrs old, her name was Ebi, so I changed it. And I change some that sound weird to me. I had one boy named Top. I changed that one. That's just too weird LOL. And I had a girl named Coral, so I took off the L... then later one of the babies was named Kora, so I had to change that LOL. I had one boy named Kayak. I thought, okay, that's just too weird... what's next a boy named Yacht? So, I changed his name to Kamden (its all I could think of at the time LOL). Then later on, another boy baby was named Kayak... so I changed it to Kyle I think it was LOL. One girl was named Topa which is okay I guess, but I changed it to Topaz lol.

Re: Poll: Virtual Villagers Names - 02/04/08 02:52 PM

For the most part I do not change the names of my villagers. I have had a tribe going since I bought the game so they are self-sufficient. I do, however, change the names when I feel the urge. As I stated in a previous post in this poll, I went through and renamed all my villagers a unique mexican food/dish. I had Enchilada and Burrito. They mated and had a Taco. Well, this time I think I will try and name all my villagers names from Disney cartoons. I will have (Steamboat) Willie, I will have Mortimer, Huey, Duey, and Louis. I am going to use the names of the mice in Cinderella, and the Chip and Luminere from Beauty and the Beast. Boy, the list can go on. I shouldn't run out of names too quickly.
Posted by: Houjun

Re: Poll: Virtual Villagers Names - 02/05/08 01:55 AM

For the most part, I only change the names if I have multiple of the same name. For example, if I have a 58-year old Hula and I have a 15-year old Hula, I tend to change the 15-year old's name to Hula II. If it's a male, I change it to the name with Jr. after it or III if I have three of them. And then I just continue with that genre of naming, sometimes arriving at IV or V or futher if I remember to check for multiple names. ;\) Other than that, I don't change the name.

I had one villager that had the name Nanu. I nearly busted out laughing when I saw that one. All I could think of was Mork on Mork and Mindy saying "nanu nanu" all the time LOL. I left that name alone though cause I thought it was funny/cute. But, just recently, one of the 2 yr old girls was named Papa LOL, so of course I had to change that one!

Re: Poll: Virtual Villagers Names - 02/08/08 09:10 AM

in vv1 I've been trying to keep track of how many total villagers I've had in my villager with each name by sticking numbers on the end, we'll see how long THAT lasts. Other then that I don't change names, except for the Golden Child who is currently named Lobsang but may be named something less polite the next time I'm in a bad mood.

In vv2 I've been combining the parents names to make a new name.

I also like to name the guys CD or DVD (being a kind of techie myself!)and sometimes I'll name the people after a favorite movie actor/actress (like Owen, Wilson, Sean, Connery) you get the idea! \:\) My favorite girls name is "Magic" and I could go on, but this is getting long...I love playing VVII and can't wait for the third edition to come out! \:\)

Re: Poll: Virtual Villagers Names - 04/07/08 08:55 PM

Well, most of my village names are based on a long story, here goes:

Phoebe, (my sister) over the years, has acquired many, MANY, nicknames, thanks to me \:D

It started out with Phobe
Phobe turned to Dobe and Wobe, and Phloby-wobe-dobe, Wobeson, Phlobus, etc. So now, Phoebe is stuck with all these nicknames. (My family is quite weird) So, in every village of mine (except two I think) I start out with seven original names. They are: Jazzo, Mrs. Jazzo, Julian (My name), Phoebe, Wobeson, Phlobus, and Phlobey-wobe-dobe. As they breed, I add more. Eventually, I end up with names like Jazza-wobe Jr. or Phlobus-Jazzo, etc. because I'm running out of names. Then, I stop naming my tribe, and often make a new one \:D

BTW, Phoebe is pronounced (FEE-bee)

SO, that's my story about names

Re: Poll: Virtual Villagers Names - 04/08/08 11:46 AM

I answered waaay back in this thread. Since then, I've altered my habits slightly. Before, I would hardly ever change their names, but recently I've taken to changing most of the names to those more often used by English-speakers. If I can, I'll keep the same initial letter so Momi, for instance, might become Mary. There are some villager's names that I specially like, such as Safari, and those I'll leave untouched. \:\)

Re: Poll: Virtual Villagers Names - 04/12/08 10:00 AM

To follow my obsession with coffee, my first tribe I had - not including online - were all named after coffees (and a few hot chocolates).

My First 7 were: Frappuccino, Machiato, Mocha, Java, Cappuccino, Cocoa, and Latte. (& yes, I know they're not all spelled right \:\) )

Their children's first names were after ingredients, adjectives, or things related to hot drinks, then their middle name was mom's first and thir last name dad's first name. I kept an excel spreadsheet of their names, children, skills, family tree, age, stews, photos, etc.

I still have it. If you were to see my main list you would find names like:

Frothy Machi Frapp
Mint Cocoa Mocha
Drip Latte Java and little sis, Instant Latte Java
Warm Cuppie Joe
Strong Ginger Espresso

I had 117 unique names and started having to name them after their ancestors. But by then I was done with the puzzles and was only looking for collectables, so I let the naming of first names fall to the game's decision.

Since then, I often let the game decide the first name, but I usually add a last name based on the mom and dad in the beginning. And that combination changes with every game.

Turns out that I actually like the names that it gives me, even the oddball ones. \:D

YES!...even if I like the names the original set is given, I change them to two or three syllables that I can use to name their children as a combo of the parents' names. Sometimes I just rename the whole tribe from the beginning; recently I picked types of wine, names based on their likes and dislikes, and names based on their hair/outfits.

I am really proud of myself for naming villagers. The names I give them usually are connected, how they look, who are their paerent or maybe what they like.
I have 98 villagers now, all of them named.
It gets harder, but I will not quit naming them because I love it when Pea and Nut have a child, who is named Peanut. And her daughter is named Butter ^^
It's like a little extra game for me.And it's just plain cute when there is a 2-year-oled girl, with red hair and a pink dress, who is named Lollipop.
Or a dark-brown haired girl, who is named Tiger.
I just love it ! \:D

I've also got a little bald 3-year-old who has a green mustache named Ekuar, a man named Dart who has grey streaks in his black hair, and a boy with spiky vlack hair named Voll. Ahdri had brown hair until I made her drink a red liquid. Oops.

i can't abide itchie, always change that one. i usually change all their names to tom dick and harry, types then after i get bored, i only change the odd one. i named one blonde ditsy, i had one whole tribe named for countrys and cities, that was fun and a stretch after a few hundred.

i renamed all my villagers with names from the television show, "Lost".

Re: Poll: Virtual Villagers Names - 06/26/08 03:31 PM

In one of my tribes, I renamed all the children born so that their names were a fusion of their parents names, but by the second generation all the names were sounding pretty much the same and there's no kind of inbreeding penalty (thank goodness!) so I dropped it. I still like to rename twins or triplets so that they match. I renamed Hope's twin as Joy, for example. I don't like two living people to have the same name, so I usually change those, but I don't mind recycling names of the dead - I think of it like a tribute to a beloved grandfather.

I like to rename my villagers, to keep track of them. I name them really names like types of flower, gemstone, color or texture. The results are really nice, especially when you have a cute little blonde girl wearing a blue dress, called Aquamarine.

I Always rename my villagers at first. I usally give them a name that fits what they look like. If one villager ends up to look like one of my friends I will give them my friends name. Sometimes I'll get creative and give my villagers real cool names. I like VV3 the best because there is so many new features to every villager.

actually, when i first start the game, i was so in to it i didn't bother to look at the names. and with my population rising really fast i had a harder time of keeping track of individual villagers. But when i get my first couple of twins and triplets i do like to change their names to twin 1 and twin 1, or triplet K or wat ever their original name started with as a first letter.

when i get villagers as twins, i rename them the same-like. like Tofo and Tofu. and Pana, Papana, and Papaya. but when i get single villagers, i rename them Fiji 1. and when another Fiji comes, i rename her Fiji II, Fiji III, Fiji IV, and so on. like Fiji V, Fiji VI, Fiji VII, Fiji VIII, Fiji IX, Fiji X, Fiji XI, Fiji XII, but when there are a dozen Fij's the next Fiji i will not rename her Fiji XII, but Fiji IIII. then Fiji IIV, Fiji I-V, since there is alreandy a Fiji Iv, so on.

i forgot.... Example 1:

father: Remus Lake
mother: Linna Pond
child: Temi Pond

Example 2:

father: Taro Sorra
mother: Ima Sorra
child: Ema Sorra

i don't rename the real names, just the second names. \:\)

EDIT: i just started a new tribe and had a girl named Topaz, renamed her Ropaz, which stands for a gemstone named Red Topaz. i'm planning it for other names to. \:\)

Re: Poll: Virtual Villagers Names - 09/14/08 03:25 PM

some of my names are with two higher-case letters instead of one higher-case-letter and then two or more lower-case-letters. but surely noone of them are original villagers.

Example 1:

mother: Topaz Shak
father: Taro Taroo
child: LC Shak

LC Shak stands for Love Child Shak.

Example 2:

mother: Fiji Temb
father: Toki Temb
child: FJ Temb

FJ Temb stands for Fiji Jr. Temb. \:\)

Re: Poll: Virtual Villagers Names - 09/18/08 03:45 PM

In my new tribe I mix names. I turn all my names into three words and then I mix it in a new name. Tabu and Caia had a child called Taia.

Tip! Sometimes if i make a name i could possibly hate, i reverse the name and put an - right before the last letter in the new name, thefirst letter in the resulting name and I capital the same letter. I like to do it. Dunno know why. That's why i'm going to say it's for some odd reason. Example: Daku + Baba = Axi-B.

Re: Poll: Virtual Villagers Names - 09/21/08 05:39 PM

I make names such as....

I rename either if there a duplicates. Example: There's a 15-year old Banga and 30-year old Banga. 15-year old Banga will be Bindi.

Pinky Shro and Reputa Palm have a daughter called Fiji, so Fiji Repi Shro. The first name of the child is the real name, the second is a name with the first two letters of the mother and last two letters are the father's first two letters. The last name is the surname of the mother instead of the father.

I change all of my villagers names at the beginning of a new game. When there is too many to keep track of I stop naming them unless I have a favorite villager.
Posted by: ArsenalF1

Re: Poll: Virtual Villagers Names - 11/11/08 10:52 AM

The first thing I do is change the names. I like to go with players from Arsenal football club and Formula One drivers for males, and for females I choose actresses I really like. I also use names from books, movies or TV shows that I watch or read. The 'Founding Fathers' of my tribe were named Jim Halpert, Cesc Fabregas, Keira Knightley, Padme Amidala, Pippin Took, and Hermione Granger. Somehow after around 80 villagers (past and present) I am still coming up with new names for new children. Some of my current residents include Lewis Hamilton, Beatrix Kiddo, Danny Ocean, Luna Lovegood, Ari Gold, Ginny Weasley, Elliot Reed, Dwight Schrute, and Steve Zizzou. My game could be called Virtual Villagers: Pop Culture Edition!

Re: Poll: Virtual Villagers Names - 02/16/09 08:57 PM

I have a new Naming Rule: the eldest boy child of the family always has a U intial, the eldest girl child of the family has a I intial. And the child who was born after both the oldest boy and the oldest girl child was born, that would have an I if it would be an girl, U if boy.. Example, if the oldest boy child has the name Nanu, it get's changed to Unu. If the oldest child girl has the name Tiki, it gets changed to Iki. If the child who is born after them has the name Fiji, it is renamed to Iji. Other than that, I also give them surnames: If it is a boy, the surname is the fathers name: If it was a girl, it would be a combo of the parents names. Example:

mother: Mama Pili

EDIT: I know that I have been posting in this thread before. smile
father: Papa Momo
oldest boychild: Unu Papa
oldest girlchild: Tiki Mapa
child born after girl and boychild are born: Iji Mapa wink

Re: Poll: Virtual Villagers Names - 03/14/09 10:17 AM

Too bad I can't edit that anymore. So, sorry for the double post.
Anyway, I now have released the names, which means I do no longer naming to keep track of the parents. But I still rename them on appearance. Example, the girl with the white streak is named 'Firefly', and 'City' is a word so I don't rename her, but 'Elaku' is just an oddball name so I rename him 'Scout'. Although the oldest sister always has her starting intial of the mother, and the oldest brother the first intial of his dad. Although I ended up with naming one of my couples 'Lilo' and 'Stitch' Oh, and everytime I get an 'Seven' I rename his younger siblings 'Eight' and 'Nine' And everytime I get a 'Tuna', I rename it 'Beaver'. LOL

Re: Poll: Virtual Villagers Names - 03/15/09 06:35 AM

I only rename someone if I already have that name in the tribe at the time. I'll usually let this go if a boy winds up with the same name as his father. For example-

Momo + Kamea = Momo Jr.

Once someone dies, I don't mind the name popping up again. But I don't like more than one of my villagers having the same name. It just gets too confusing.

Re: Poll: Virtual Villagers Names - 03/15/09 09:24 AM

I have to comment on that one:

It is hard for me to do that, but I suceeded. Anyway, I only gave up on 90 villagers.

Oh, and by the way, Elaku is not Scout anymore, but scroll. :P

Re: Poll: Virtual Villagers Names - 05/02/09 10:57 PM

I have another way of naming again: now add last names again, to track lineage. Every first name and last name begins with A for the oldest, B for the second oldest. I don't use English American names but quicker-and-easier-to-remember names, thus most of the villagers names, not in alphabet order. LOL And their last names are Acait, Batiu, and Cachia. You know. And Now you might wonder about the lineage thing. Well, I mix up the names. Let's see the letters as numbers. A would be 0, B would be 1, C owuld be 2. If you add C and B, you make D, just like if you add 1 and 2 to make 3. Taki and Tayta could make Mauhi. grin

Re: Poll: Virtual Villagers Names - 09/28/09 04:32 PM

I've always gotten lots of duplicates, so I rename about half of them so I can tell them apart. "City" or "Soda" - those have to go right away. I try to come up with the strangest sounding names I can think up, like Zywyki. And I name multiples similiar names. Twins would be Nabyko & Mabyko, for instance.

Re: Poll: Virtual Villagers Names - 12/22/09 04:28 PM

If there are 2 people with the same name the younger one will just get "Jr" after their name. How about 3 people? LOL I just put "Jrr" after the youngest one's name! 1 "R" for each duplicate! (Imagine 1 million villagers with the same name! XXXXXJrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr........!!!)

Re: Poll: Virtual Villagers Names - 08/17/11 09:20 PM

I do for duplicates, and the names "Swahili", (I think that having a villager named after a language that I'm learning is a bit too comical) and "Konichua" (it's spelled "konichi wa").
They get replaced with Swahili names, like Hatima (destiny).

Sometimes, I name villagers after a parent ([Name] II).

I also change the names of the people who dislike running to [space], as they don't deserve names. >:O

Re: Poll: Virtual Villagers Names - 10/18/11 05:43 PM

I like to go through the alphabet (naming the oldest man Adam, the next Benjamin ect.)to help me remember ages and keep an eye on the 13 yr olds to make sure I get them working as soon as they turn 14. But once all the goals are met and there is less to do I tend to just leave them their original names and worry less about how productive they are in their lives.

Re: Poll: Do you change your villagers' name? - 12/28/11 03:21 AM

I'm into genealogy and I'm researching my ancestors in France. So, I name my original Villagers the French names of my kinfolk ... Francoise, Susanne, Maguerite, Maria, Jean-Pierre, Etienne, Caterina, Nicolaus, etc. It helps me remember which is which. I don't normally rename any of the Heathens. However, if any of the heathens are a pain in the butt, they get a special name or colored outfit marking them for an early grave with the Time Warp, just to be rid of them. LOL

If I can't change the name to something similar, then I give it a totally random name.

I always do. but now I made up the last names ; Blue, Lopez, Hutchinson, Sander, Jones, and Terexun( Terexuna if female) there used to be Uppleware and Goldyson but that family died out. frown frown What I do is I mate the parents, then when the kid comes out I look at his dad's last name and give it to the kid. Sometimes I give the kid his moms last name or make one up smirk
