***CLOSED*** VV4 - Villagers Fashion Contest!!!

Villagers Fashion Contest for VV4!



It is time for another LDW contest! In this contest, we would like to see you come up with a new fabulous costume for your favorite villagers. This time the contest will be before the game is released so that the prize can make it in the new chapter of Virtual Villagers! That's right! The top three costumes will be given to our artist Matt who will render them and then we will insert them in VV4!

How to participate:

- Make your own drawing of a costume you would like to see in the next chapter of Virtual Villagers.
- Costume can be for a male or a female. We will judge only the costume, not the hair style.
- You can use pencil, crayon, ink, photoshop, etc
- Attach your drawing to this thread. Instructions on how to do this are posted HERE.
- Please follow all LDW forum rules and posting guidelines.

Rules for the contest:

- You may submit up to 3 entries. If you should submit more than three costumes, anything after the third one will not be considered and may be removed from the contest. So choose wisely.
- The contest will end at 12:01 AM, PDT, on August 5, 2009.
- All entries will be judged by the LDW staff members and the winners will be announced on or before August 9, 2009.

This sounds like a total Phoebe contest, I'll get her on it. And maybe I'll try my photoshop skillz at it too.

Question: can we modify pre-existing vv outfits? Or does it have to be original.

Jazzo, based on what Carla said above, the outfits should be original.

So, does that mean that I should change my last one?
I used the bodies from VV3 so I could do the shape of the dress better, but I erased most of the clothes already there, so it wouldn't be too similar. But The cloud one is not very original.
And are you allowed to change your entry as long as it is before judging?

Ah, well, I made one. I had a really good idea but in photoshop, it didn't come out that well. However, since I worked my rear end off on it, I shall post it anyway.

I'll get clarification on that, Elf-girl, and get back to you tomorrow on it.

Since this game is on an island,I made it with hibiscus flowers,which grows in my place.

1st off, I'd like to compliment everyone's great entries .

2nd, I've seen a lot of dresses and women's clothing. The contest is for male or female outfits, so I have an entry here:

I went the simple route this time, for a male outfit.


A V-neck shirt with shorts, and it can be used with any color, but i just chose red to color it, lol, but the colors can be changed if it is used.

I really love your outfit also Lyssaria. It's so cute! I can just see my little villagers walking around in it too. I started on one but never finished it. Maybe I can after I finish my living room.

I make clothing for my villagers all the time. I'd love to have one in VV4. I made this one especially for this contest.

My entry is a fluid gown spun by special silkworms found only on Isola. The bodice sports black pearls from Isola's giant clams. Flowers on the spajetti strap are from Isola's magic flower garden.

That's a gorgeous dress LW! I love how you listed all of the materials required to create the dress. I wouldn't mind having some black pearls of my own

I think it would be cool to have Adam and Eve type outfits with leaf bikini things but that would be two entries (and wouldn't be so fun if there was only one and not the other) so I will think of something else.

I mean it Tough Girl! Give it your best shot Hon. You may end up a winner. I'll be rooting for you all the way. You never know what you can do till you try. Making a male outfit seems daunting to me, but I just may try one in a day or two.

Please do. I can't draw a stick figure, but it would be nice if the men could have some nicer outfits. They just never seem as appealing as some of the female outfits.

I always wanted an outfit for the scientists and I designed this one for master scientist male or female could ware this and my other two outfits our male and female rainbow outfits. Both rainbow outfits is made out of grass materials. Could add more colours on them.

Here is my entry it is a black and white striped shirt it has zig-zag cuffs to give that islandy feel and there are cacky shorts. This is a modern outfit with an islany touch

My first design is for boys. I thought that jewels and flowers were mostly girl stuff, so did a bold move and did a blue flowered T-shirt with leaf pants, and blue pearl encrusted belt and flip-flops. Let the guys of VV4 show their feminine side!

the second design changed alot since I first came up with the idea, as it started out as the grass skirt and coconut combo, but I figured that was too 'been done'. Alot of changes have been made, and now the grass skirt is made of pink pearls, the coconut is now two red starfish with pink pearl straps(that cross in the back)I have a pink pearl bracelet, and I topped it of with flowered flip-flops and a flowered belt.

I hope you like my creations!

the reason she stands out is because the guy turned out so much smaller. Dont know why, he just did. It's kinda hard to see all the really cool deatails I worked so hard on. Gotta say, I did more than I expected of myself

Definition: A Dress For a "fisher" tribal woman of isola. The scribbles on the rims are fur.

Here's entry #2, a complicated native princess-inspired dress I also included a shrunk-down image to help imagine it on our little villagers.

Here's my first entry for the contest. The coloring didn't turn out too good since I did it in paint and it doesn't look half as good as it did in black and white but I'm still happy with it.

Hello to all you LDW Forum Villagers out there. First, I wanted to let you know that there is a thread, just above this particular thread, called "VV4 Villagers Fashion Contest Compilation", in the "Contests" forum. It has all the entries submitted thus far, in an easy to use and view file. If you'd like, you can check them out.

Also, because I am a representative of LDW, I cannot enter to win any contests here on the forum, but that doesn't stop me from putting in my own creations. Just know, mine will not be considered. I just like showing off. So, here is my unofficial "entry".

Something a little Old-fashioned.

Very nice dress Gamey! I really like the flower-pedel color and the color. I like the swf show too.

That's an amazing dress Gamey! I would've loved to see that on one of the maternal villagers in my village. I also really appreciate the flash presentation you put together to view the dresses, it is much easier than sifting through all of the pages!

You're tempting me to open up my old 3d programs and give them a good dust off just for fun.

I love that animation of that lovely dress, I only wish I could have it for one of my villagers or even for my one of my VFs friends. Oh and thank you for making that Flash player I can look at all the fashion clothes creations

Finally I can post my entries! I got a new scanner, so here we go. And just in time for me to disappear for a week. lol
Anyway.
The first one is made of a sail and some rope. (I don't know if there is a shipwreck involved at all in the game, but I thought it might work)
Second is a simple, sleeveless light dress with a flower detail on one strap.
And finally, my personal favorite. A dark pink tank top, mid-length pants and a flower-print sarong. (I'm really proud of this one)

And I apologize for being overly detailed. They might be a little difficult to fit down to the size of our villagers and keep the details. Although I have been amazed in the past, so... yeah. Anyway, there you go!

Here is my last entry. I drew this while I was in Sunday School yesterday. I was just drawing dresses, and when I got home I asked mom if any of the ones I drew she liked better than the one I was painting on the computer. She said yes.

Here are my last two entries. I really like the clothing that looks like tribal wear, so I did two tribal dresses. I did the second one in blue also with different trim, but since we can only post three entries I had to choose between the two.

There's been a lot of great outfits entered. Mine are no better or worse than the others. I entered them for the fun of it. I sincerely wish all of you who've posted entries good luck. I hope you win...If not we had fun anyway. Big hugs!

Both dresses are made from sueded leather and trimmed with the downy feathers from Isola's tropical birds. I want to thank our little VF friend who so graciously agreed to model them for me.

Thanks Lyssaria! It took me forever to come up with anything. I knew I wanted feathers but couldn't decide on the style for the longest time. I'm glad to have them done. I really wanted to do a male outfit but just couldn't come up with anything.

That's really funny, it shows how we think alike! I was trying to make a tribal-inspired dress and thought about the feathers and how I really wanted to do something with those.. and ended up making the entire pattern of the dress based off of 3-4 feathers tied together upside-down.

I really didn't, but I love the pattern. That dress is beautiful enough for a girls prom night.

I'm going to go back to look and see if I can see the feather pattern. You probably should have pointed it out to us when you posted it.

That's a good point! I was hoping it would show its tribal inspiration through the colors and the little villager I chose to represent it with the headband Oopsy!

I can see the feather pattern now that you pointed it out. It's too bad you didn't think to tell us how you made the pattern in your post. I hope the judges see these posts so they will know. It may make a difference in how they judge it for a villager outfit. I really want them to choose that one. It would look so great on our lady villagers.

There's also always mods in the end! At least if they program it similarly to the other games where we can easily access the files.

I've had so much inspiration from viewing these entries and it's making me more and more excited for the game. I never thought of modding any of the VV games because they are naturally so beautiful, but if there were any clothes I really wanted we could try to implement them as well.

I made mods for Villager 3 but not the other two. I can't hardly wait to play it too. I just hope the villagers move as quickly as our Families peeps do. If not it may prove too frustrating for me to play. I tried going back to Villagers 3 after playing Families and the peeps were so slow it drove me up a wall.

First entry (this) is for a woman; my 2nd (and maybe 3rd) will be for men.
Living in Africa has given me lots of inspiration.

The top is standard (although the buttons are missing )
the bottom is a konga (a simple cloth wrap)

Just happened on to this thread today. What great concepts you all have....tho admittedly I do have several favorites! I think the LDW team should just incorporate all of the ideas into VV4.
I really, really hope someone will come up with a kilt skirt idea. Banana leaves might work....or plaited rope from the ship stores.

I've never done this before, so here is my attempt to add an entry. Edited for appearance.

That worked! So, here is another. This is a maternity inspired outfit. These women somehow never look like they are expecting. They just pop out a child. But here, I have thought of a new take on the conventional muumuu. With bright, cheery colors, a cute babydoll top, bright, gaucho leg capri pants and a floral pattern, this outfit will make any expecting villager proud to be a new mama.

Nealsmama, this is so very cute, and it looks like an outfit our little villagers would wear. I absolutely love the neckline and the floral touches. I really really really like it!!!!

I really like your second one too. Oh the task those poor judges are going to have trying to choose only three outfits out of these entries. I wish they'd use them all.

Here is my final entry. This is for the working woman in the village. She has her canteen for filling up on spring water. On the other hip, she has a machete for harvesting fruit, clearing leaves and keeping her husband in line (j/k!). The dress may have once been pretty (I was first inspired by Ginger from Gilligan's Island), but now it has grass, mud, dirt and flower stains caused by lots of hard work to get the island into tip-top shape. An ode to working women!

Lol, I love the part about having the knife to keep her husband in line. Nice work again Sweetie!

I haven't even thought about it As for the working woman's outfit, I love how you attached accessories and even stained the clothes to show that they were "worked in"

I have loved all the entries so much! What a creative group of people. I wish I had the artistic talent of Lewanda, Krystal and so many others. Alas, I erased Gimp without remembering, so I only had Paint to work with. I had wanted to do a top of woven palm fronds criss crossed in an X with just a little bit of the belly showing. The skirt would have been three layers of grasses in different colors (tiered skirts are all the rage right now!). Unfortunately, my Paint attempt looked like just that - a Paint attempt. lol! I was hoping to inspire someone else to come up with the look I just described.

Ok, here goes... my first attempt at drawing something using Paint. I still don't know how to use Gimp. This looks kinda modern but in my mind the material for the neckline ruffles are leaves and the accent at the waist is made from straw.

Nealsmama, I just read your post after posting my second entry. We had similar ideas only instead of grass, I used leaves in different shades of green.

Final entry. Wrap around skirt that's knotted at the hips using woven plaid fabric in (my head's) village colors of pink, yellow, and lavender. The spaghetti strapped top has a knot accent at the waist in the same color as the skirt.

Wow serendipity I love this one even more that the other two. I'd like the skirt in plain pink too.

I just want to compliment everyone on their entries in case that I've missed doing it for one or more. We have so many talented people on this forum. Wow!!!

Thank you, Lewanda. I thought of using a different print other than flowers and I came up with plaid which could be made using the village colors. My eyes are so strained from making that.

I also had another dress ready but it would be more suited for a VF peep. Maybe I'll enter it if ever LDW decided to come up with a similar contest for VF 2.

You're right, it's more tropical. I tried making flowers but they didn't come out the way I liked them to be so I thought of another print and straight lines are easier to draw for a newbie like me. Notice that all my entries didn't have flowers in them.

serendipity, you can find all kinds of tutorials on the web for using your image editor. You should read up on them and implement those ideas. I bet they'd be great!

Okay finally my last one. I was thinking about my flowered guy, which I named Tommy, and thought "hey, Tommy probably gets picked on for being girly by the village boys"and I started thinking about what kind of guy would pick on him. And I thought it would be funny if I made him a twin brother who was totally different from him in every way. So here is his twin brother Sharky. I'll tell you how he got that nick name. See, poor Sharky was sad that his mom always reffered to Tommy and Sharky,and not Sharky and Tommy, and they always wore the same clothes. He decided to set himself apart by finding a shark tooth(from VV3) and a styinging red star fish(also from VV3). This would prove he was much braver than Tommy, and remind everybody that he was born first! He succeded, as you can tell from his acessories, but in the process he ripped up his clothes a little. And to impress the village girls, he gave them some starfish, and my girl outfit, who I named Pearl, is switching on and off between dating Sharky and Tommy.

So as you can see, if one of your village children has this outfit, it will show he has strength, and weather he's leading a family or leading the construction of that new hut, he'll be a great leader some day.

Sorry I had so much to say and it's kind of a run-on, but it was all important and I needed to say it.

Edited to add: the green jacket is made of leaves(like his brothers pants) and his pants are jeans, not sure if they have those on Isola though. The shirt was origionally white, but got stained with blood. The starfish is his belt buckle, and the shark tooth necklace is the most important part.

I love that story that you placed with your outfit txmom2! I know that some people don't read through all of it, but I did and I'd love to have an outfit representing strength on one of my villagers. Great entry!

I like to have several of the clothes that have been designed by our forumers, but I know only 3 can be chosen, so those that don't win I would like to have mods of my fave ones. There at least 20 faves of clothing desigend. It be hard to choose from. I am glad I'm not a judge otherwise every one would win.

Thanks you guys! This was a fun contest. I really liked seeing all the outfits people came up with, there are so many great ones! It has been fun for my kids as well, they've been working on outfits for the past few days. The ones posted by Marushi are done by my oldest daughter, Marcalie. How do you know that we will be able to change costumes in VV4? Although you can in VV2 and VV3 (after quite a lot of progress in the game) you can't in VV1. Perhaps LDW will take away that ability.

i just have one complaint, Jazzo sister and sammygirl's outfits look alike, its just one is lighter than the other.

They look good done up and My fave is KIKOMIKO males outfit

I just wanted to say that in my trial period of VV4, one of the women I chose at the beginning had Becca123's winning dress!

The winning costumes look awesome on paper and in the game!
