If you need to back up the savegame files for Virtual Villagers: A New Home, you can find the procedures for doing that in this Support FAQ answer for Windows or this Support FAQ answer for Macintosh.
If you need to restore the savegame files later, you can just copy them from the folder you stored them in back into the game's application folder.
