This is often a problem today, with flatscreen monitors being the norm. The old, clunky CRT monitors are actually superior most of the time in terms of color accuracy. Many CRTs have problems with color accuracy, and this is sometimes the bane of a graphic artist, as you cannot control the result that someone sees on their computer.

As it is, one flatscreen monitor often gives you a different result from another - another problem might be related to the corrections or attempted enhancement that a video card's settings might apply. But I would doubt that the problem is caused by the operating system.
