If you could have any pet in Virtual Families (doesn't have to exist in the game store) what would it be?

I'm personally happy with my cat, but I'm sure you guys have different opinions

Also, which one that exists in the game already is your least favorite? For me it'd be the turtle, just because I've always had dogs in my home and the peeps will interact with the fishies.

I wish there were different types of dogs and cats. I'd like a red doberman, like my Dixie that died, for my families.

Personally, before the upgrade that added the couch-scratching action to the cat, I thought it would be cool to have a mod making the cat into a miniature horse. It looks very equine when it's lying down, I think.

All my families have dogs. I repeat, ALL 27 families. lol I'm a bit of a dog person I think. :P Maybe I should get one of them a cat just to be different.

I think it is a great idea to have different types of dogs and cats. I have the white cat currently, also downloaded the black kitty. Would love to have kitties to match my real life kitties, but might take more work. One is gray with white paws, chest and a milk moustache, my other at is a siamese (blue seal point I think). He is cream color, with dark smoky shading through him. As for my families that have a dog, it would be nice to have different breeds. I have a black lab named Sadie that I love to death .. she is the BEST dog in the world. Would like to have a black lab to choose from .. and a golden retriever. Love your idea of a doberman. I love dobermans, and german shepherds! Might be a lot of work to do this ... this is why I'm working my BUTT off learning to mod! I've downloaded Corel Paintshop and GIMP, but am having a hard time .. get frustrated easily!

BB ... you learned so quick! Your work is terrific. You'll have to clue me in on your secret! Any ideas on how I can learn GIMP better? I tried to put the pieces of the map together, like in cheezyfries example .. I couldn't get it to work!

Maybe hamster or bunnies for the kids rooms. I wish you could have more than 1 pet in the house at a time. I would love to have a cat AND a dog!

I'm starting to learn how to do mods myself. So far, I'm frustrated and running into so many snags! I'm determined though as it looks like so much fun and my brain is bursting with ideas! I told Lewanda, I actually get up in the middle of the night (like now) to jot down ideas! I wonder how BB caught on so fast .. wish I had her talent to pick it up so quick!

1littleb: I was a very slow starter in the beginning, but I'm sure if you give it a try you'll pick it up too! You definitely have the creativity to pull it off. Sometimes I'm just too lazy to do the modding itself, and I get those sleepless nights from ideas.

I am using the gray/white kitty and the doberman looks SO ADORABLE following my little peeps around! He is sleeping on top of one of the children right now!

I just spent a good 5 minutes looking at cute pictures of Doberman puppies they really are adorable! This is making me want to venture upstairs in pitch black darkness just to give my old doggies some hugs ^^

1littleb, the best tip I can give you is not to give up! A lot of different things happen that might discourage you, but with every mistake you've learned something new I still get discouraged, as does Lewanda I'm sure!

Lyssaria I would like a grey cat with black stripes , and on the same grid in place of the dog could you put a papillon? My mom used to have a papillon and he was a very good dog. I want to surprise my mom. I'm using the doberman mod. It's very good!

I saw a really gorgeous Papillon that was getting groomed in the pet store I volunteer with..it was adorable! I'll definitely look into adding more of these pet requests, I just have to get my energy back up first

Another thought I had, after reading all the posts about actual pets you all have, was that it would be really cool for my family to have a little cat like my Niobe. She's silvery gray with darker gray tabby stripes, and she's just the sweetest little cat. (Except for her tendency to yowl when she's not happy about something)

I would love to be able to have a kitty that looks like my Lucky. She is a calico and the sweetest little thing! Her sister is a blue-cream calico named Angel. I would also like to have one of their other sister, Miracle. She was a calico like Lucky, but was part Persian. Unfortunately, she didn't live very long. She was very sick, and had to be put to sleep. It would be nice if my lil people could have a little Miracle of their own.

I'm so sorry I didn't answer this. I haven't had much time to be on the forums lately and am just now seeing it. I hope you've figured it out now, but if not, just drop me a pm and I'll send you one that's already done and ready for edits.

My image editing experience was a 2 hour course on how to make animated GIFs about 12 years ago. lol I've never used GIMP before this, but had heard of it when I was searching for freeware alternatives to "name brand" programs. I wasn't even looking for image editors at the time.

My mom is an artist and my brothers seem to have her artistic talent, though I've never thought I did. It seems when it comes to tiny little dots, I'm not nearly as scared of messing up as I am when it's pen or paint and paper or canvas. I think working on our lil peeps tiny scale helps a lot too because small errors just don't show up and you don't have to be detailed with what you draw.

I mess up and mess up and mess up until I finally get something that resembles what I'm looking for. Seriously, that's how I'm learning. What Lewanda and Lyssaria said about picturing the idea in your mind - that's exactly what I do. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

Once I had the idea I was going to put stacked ball topiaries on either side of the front door. I worked and worked making those things just right. Then pasted them into my map only to find they completely hid the plants and things in the office and laundry room and I couldn't even use them. lol I could give you dozens of examples of failures!! But when something finally works out the way you had it pictured, it's all worth it.

If you're determined, you'll get it. Best of luck to you!

No problem for the Boxer gmom! Shasta sounds absolutely gorgeous, you must be very proud of her!

To have different mods in each family, you'd need to have another copy of the game so you can save the mod files you want into each separate image folder.

There's lots of suggestions on how to do this here! Tuna Puzzler has a guide there that explains how to do it.

The screenshots don't do justice to how well she looks in the game. No more clicking on the dog thinking she's a collectible. lol I loved her so much I immediately made a pet bed and food and water dishes for her. hehe When I came to post to you about it, I found my Dixie! Dixie, however, was not impressed with my pet bed and still thinks the old rug is much more comfy. :P

I'm glad you posted here! When I made the tally I was thinking of the posts that were made in here, so I forgot about the poor little Labradoodle I ended up backtracking in this topic and putting your request in the exact spot it would be in if you posted here according to the date and time!

My boyfriend doesn't really get angry, it just ends up being 5 or so minutes of questioning me about what I'm doing and why I had to do it while he's home He had to quit his job so he's going to be home more often for a while.

I love, love, LOVE the lil pom!! You did a great job. Even his "mane" from the side makes him look like our D-Bear. I love how he looks smaller than the others. And the gray on the face, OMG! He looked exactly like that the last few years before he passed. I called my hubby to the pc just to show him. First time he's ever even seen the game (although he's heard me talk about it a lot.) I can't wait for my daughter to get home so she can see.

I'm so sorry about your hubby. I know how rough that can be - not just financially either. Mine has been great lately about not complaining, but I try not to let it cut into "our" time, meaning I don't play (even with mods) a lot when he is home, unless he is busy with other things. But to lose that time when he is at work, ouch. heh

I loved the little pom too, and so did my sister who she did the blonde one for.

I try to stay away from the puter when my hubby's home too, but he's jealous of my being on it even when he's away. Lol!!!

I'm so glad you like him BB! I didn't realize he passed, I'm sorry for your loss Now you get to see him any time you want! This would be the main reason why I feel so fulfilled doing these pets than working on the rooms.

I found 2-3 good jobs for him so he should be right back into it pretty soon His job was making him miserable, so he did the right thing by quitting before it made him ill. At least this time we're aiming for jobs that he'll actually enjoy!

Yes, he was 12 years old when he died. He was our first house dog and he was (literally) the way I got my daughter to sleep in her own bed (she's 17 now.) We are dog lovers and have had many (still do) but D-Bear is the most special. He was our first experience with how a dog in the house can become sooo very much a member of the family.

I can see it in the pets. You must be an animal lover or work with them a lot. I feel the same way with the foods. lol I'm a nurse, but I absolutely LOVE to cook. Once I started making food for my peeps, I completely stopped working on my other mods. heh Now I'm trying recipes in the kitchen and thinking "I wonder if I can make that show up in the game..."

I completely understand about the job and you are absolutely correct. We've been through that too. My hubby is now an electrician, but we've put him through EMT school, a little college and he's tried several other jobs as well. Everybody is happier when they finally find the thing that they are comfy doing and the right place to do it. Wish him the best from me!

We're very strict because we want the best for each and every one, so I really love hearing about happy stories about pets and their owners.

I can't tell you how much I love having D-Bear in the game! My daughter likes Lewanda's Dixie also, so between the three (with our Dixie) we are switching pets about as often as we change meals. lol

It depends on what type of mod you're trying to do and which program you're using. I find that I get a lot of problems solved by using Google search and looking for tutorials on what I want to do.

For example, if I want to make a room a different color and I'm using Photoshop, I can type "How to change colors in Photoshop" in Google. I did this because it would take a long time to make specific guides on mods.. there's so much to do!

Yeah, GIMP is a great program for making mods I'm sure you'll find lots of tutorials for it.

I did a siamese cat for 1littleb, and it's fur seems to move when it walks. Lol, it does look kind of funny. I do animations all the time so know I can fix it. I just haven't had time yet.

I love seeing my lil pom in the game too. Sometimes I forget to tell my daughter about the new mods I've installed and her reaction can be quite amusing. LOL BB! That reminds me of when my mom picked up a stray dog off the street and it looked like a younger version of my peek-a-poo that passed away.. my brother went into the kitchen where we were keeping him and he just stared at it for a while until a "huh?" came out.

Lewanda, my son and I had the best time with that video of talking dogs. Neither of us had ever even heard of it, and I just had to make him come to the pc to see it.

Yes, we are completely thrilled. The whole family has seen him now and we all agree that when he is walking towards us (in game) he looks identical to D-Bear.

Many thanks to Lyssaria for giving us virtual versions of our own pets. They're all so precious..and very well done I might add! Thanks so much, Lys, for giving me my Dixie back and for those you've made for the other forum members too! I can't tell you how much I appreciate it.

I'm really glad I am able to contribute to this community and wonderful game in some way As long as my health permits, I'll be doing the best I can so everyone can discover more things to love in VF!

LOL That would be pretty neat.. a dragon walking around in the house.. maybe replace the cat, so instead of scratching the furniture the dragon tries to burn it

I wondered if we were going to see any "fantasy" pets on this thread. They seem to be so common in other games. Thanks for posting it, Doom. Maybe it will jump start people's imaginations and we'll see some other creative ideas!

Maybe we could turn Krystal's minature horse into a unicorn! :P

I'm sure one of you could try nudging Krystal through PM to get that unicorn done I think that'd be pretty neat having a unicorn walking around!

I love all of the animals done so far! Very cute! Is there a way to switch the horse to the dogs spot? And can someone make a Rottweiler? I would love to have either!

This post would be best suited to go in the Dream Pets topic, but I'm sure a mod or admin can move it. And I can get right on moving the horse for you!

Ok, I didn't read all of the posts for this subject, but my hubby and 11YO gave me this idea. A pot-bellied pig!!! Preferably the pale pink with black spot kind!

I was actually thinking about adding a pig into the game too That'd be pretty cute! Unfortunately I'm very sick right now with Cystitis so I'm taking it easy for a while!

If anyone else wants to take a shot at making some dream pets, I more than encourage you to give it a try!

I'm also really sorry, but I couldn't find my picture of my Yorkie. I would still love him to be imortilized in a game, though.
